BUFFSAR Swiftwater Rescue

In honor of #NationalPoliceWeek, we wish to recognize the dedicated men and women of the BUFFSAR team (Buffalo National River Search & Rescue). These volunteers and staff members are called upon to respond to emergency situations in the park and surrounding communities. This video, produced by Harrison Junior High School EAST students, shows footage from a swiftwater rescue training and shares one family's story of their experience with the BUFFSAR team. Thank you to all of those who serve and protect park visitors and resources! #BUFF101 #BUFFSAR

Wilderness First Aid at Steel Creek

The first wilderness medicine course in partnership with North Arkansas College and Ozark Safety and Rescue Educators took place on Saturday, May 13, at Steel Creek Research Learning Center. 8 students received certification in Basic Wilderness First Aid and are now equipped to stabilize patients in backcountry settings like Buffalo National River. Special thanks to instructor Tom Burroughs for facilitating a meaningful learning experience!

It's almost as if the whole world is visiting Buffalo National River this weekend! Because the river is high today, students from Rotary International Youth Exchange decided to take a hike at Lost Valley instead of going paddling. We commend their caution and dedication to safety! #FindYourPark #EncuentraTuParque #BUFF101 #SafetySaturday

This academic year, Environmental and Spatial Technologies (EAST) students from the Harrison School District have been developing some awesome projects in partnership with Buffalo National River. We're excited to feature some of them in the coming weeks. Last month, Harrison High School EAST students took a field trip to Lost Valley to gather video footage, photographs, and GPS information for the Buffalo's most popular hiking trail. When complete, this project will allow people with limited mobility to experience the sights and sounds of Lost Valley via virtual reality headset. How cool is that?! Stay tuned for more #StellarStudent features this spring and summer. #BUFF101 #FindYourPark Photos by Terra Fondriest Photography
