New Labor and Delivery Beds at GPRMC A recent purchase by Great Plains Regional Medical Center is making delivering babies more comfortable than ever. The hospital bought three new state-of-the-art labor and delivery beds, one for each delivery room in the Women's Center. Miranda Cummings, Director of the Women's Center, says the beds have several functions that help moms a lot during delivery. “Moms can scrunch up if they want to,” Cummings said. “They can elevate various parts of their bodies if they want to, or if we think they need to. We move our patients all around.” And the beds have a labor bar that can be used if the moms want them. “The labor bars allow moms to have a more natural, more comfortable delivery. We think these bars can help reduce the need for C-sections and encourage natural deliveries.” The new beds will also help the doctors and nurses as they help mothers with deliveries. “The nurses have been walking around with even bigger smiles,” Cummings said. Each bed cost approximately $17,000. The GPRMC Hospital Foundation raised the money last December during the hospital's first annual Gala. CEO Corey Lively says the Foundation really stepped up to fill this need. “I can't thank them enough,” Lively said. “The Gala they put on was wonderful, and it raised a lot of money to help moms give birth.” Approximately 360 babies are born each year at GPRMC's Women's Center. -Nathan Brewer
