Four Gettys Middle School placed in the 2017 Hampton Memorial Library Poetry Contest. Alyssa Thomas, James Nguyen, and J'Nyah Mike were finalists in the teen category, and Lennon Nalley was a finalist for the Dot Jackson prize which focuses on narrative poetry. Overall, there were 82 entries with 38 of these entries being in the teen category. The contest was judged by Mr. Tom Johnson, a prize winning poet and member of the South Carolina Academy of Authors.

Congratulations to the Gettys Middle School EVA Project Team for receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award from Pickens County's Behavioral Health Services Prevention Department. The award goes to Ms. Keonna Palmer and students Adriana Field, Kiundre Hunter, Paris Pena, Matthew Restrepo, and India Smith for completing the 2016-17 School Action Plan. Well done!

Listen up, 7th and 8th grade girls! PowderPuff signups have started and will run through Monday, May 1st. The big game will be played on Thursday, May 11th. The cost to play is $25; this includes a team shirt, team picture, 1 admission ticket and a commemorative cup. See Coach Austin, Coach Adams, Coach Cadorette or Coach Hemingway to sign up and to get more information. Although students can still pay with cash or check, the preferred method of payment is MySchoolBucks. Cost when using MySchoolBucks is $23. Admission is $5.00.
