Regulations Pertaining To Signs On Public Property: The City of Cody's Sign Code does not allow for garage sale signs or any other event type sign to be placed on public property or within a public right-of-way. Due to the safety hazards and unsightly residue of garage sale signs (e.g., leftover tape on sign posts, boxes left on public rights-of-ways, etc.), the Governing Body has directed staff to address this issue with the public and make the public aware of the ordinance in order to maintain compliance. These violations within the city could result in fines up to $750. Please refer to the following City of Cody's Municipal Code segments: 10-15-6(B) - Prohibited Signs, Item 8: "Signs are prohibited on any utility pole, traffic sign post, traffic signal, or any other official traffic control device." Item 1 of that same section is applicable: "Any sign not specifically authorized in accordance with the provisions of this chapter is prohibited." 7-2-7: OBSTRUCTIONS; BUILDINGS, FENCES, SIGNS, ETC.: "No person shall erect, build, or set up in the city—in whole or in part—any fence, signpost, shop, or any other building or obstruction whatever, in, or upon any street, alley, sidewalk, or other public place, provided, however, merchandise, A-frame signs, merchandising props, and flowerpots may be placed on the sidewalk by a merchant in front of its business as long as the same does not impede pedestrian traffic or interfere with parked cars or passengers exiting same."
