Audition Notice: ZORRO THE MUSICAL at Plaza Theatre Company Plaza Theatre Company is pleased to announce auditions for its upcoming production of ZORRO THE MUSICAL. The production will be directed by G. Aaron Siler with stage management by Casey Covington. The initial audition is being held on Monday August 14th or Tuesday August 15th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Audition appointments are available by calling the Plaza Box Office at 817-202-0600 or by visiting https://plazaco.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?notembedded=1 The audition will be held at Plaza Academy which is located at 221 Mill Street in Cleburne about 1 block from Plaza Theatre Company. AUDITION INFORMATION All auditioners should prepare 32 bars of a song of their choice. Don't overthink the song choice, just sing something that shows your voice at its best. No a cappella singing. Accompanist will be provided and use of the piano is preferred. Audio playback is acceptable (CD or off your phone - but please have the track ready to go on your phone). The show will have some singing in Spanish. If you have a song you can sing in Spanish we would like to hear 16-32 bars of it in addition to your audition song. The directors will spend around 5 minutes with each individual performer at this initial audition. A call back audition may be held on Wednesday, August 16th at 7:00pm. Only those who the directors wish to see further will be invited to the call back audition which may last up to 3 hours time. PLEASE REFER TO THE PLAZA AUDITION GUIDELINES AS WELL AS THE PLAZA AUDITION CREDO WHEN PREPARING YOUR AUDITION. The guidelines and Credo can be found at plaza-theatre.com/auditions PRODUCTION INFORMATION The production will play on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings and Saturday afternoons opening on October 13th and playing thru November 11th. Rehearsals will commence on about August 26th and will usually take place Monday thru Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. We will add some Wednesday nights as we get closer to opening. No Sunday rehearsals or performances. SHOW INFORMATION A Regional Premiere! The legendary story of Zorro has been a source of enduring fascination and has been the subject of several major motion pictures. Zorro the Musical retells the dramatic story of a romantic hero with extraordinary aerial acrobatics, spectacular sword-fighting and incredible magic – all set to the famous red-hot Gipsy King beat brought to the Plaza stage with the authentic colors of traditional flamenco dancing. Music by the Gipsy Kings and John Cameron. ABOUT THE THEATRE Plaza Theatre Company is a 158 seat theatre-in-the-round located at 111 S. Main in Cleburne, TX. The Company produces around 10 shows a year usually in the style of family-friendly comedies and musicals. PlazaCo opened in November of 2006 and is currently producing it’s 108th show. The Company has been the proud recipient of over 57 Column Awards including winning “Best Musical” in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2016 and “Best Play” in 2014 in addition to recently being named “Best Theatre Group” by the WFAA A-List for 2011. Diego De La Vega: Male. Lead. Play 22 – 30. A charismatic, charming, performer. Destined to be the Alcalde of Los Angeles but runs away from the academy in Spain. He comes back to Los Angeles when encouraged by Luisa. He opposes the cruel actions of his brother Ramon and becomes Zorro to fight for justice. Ramon De La Vega: Male. Lead. Play 24 – 34. Diego's elder brother and self-appointed leader of Los Angeles after his father dies. Does not listen or care for the people and enjoys the power of leadership. Inez: Female. Lead. Play 30’s. A lovely gypsy woman, somewhat older than Diego, but still sexy. This strong woman is the leader of a band of Gypsy’s. Luisa: Female. Lead. Play 20-28. A strong woman who is committed to help the citizens of Los Angeles. Childhood friend to Diego. She searches for him in Spain when his father dies. Sergeant Garcia: Male. Supporting. Play 20-48. Ramon's sergeant. Clumsy comic relief. This reluctant soldier is pushed around by Ramon. Alejandro De La Vega: Male. Featured. Play 38-60. Alcalde of Los Angeles. A good and just leader. Diego and Ramon's father. Eduardo, Jorge, Ignacio: Male. Supporting. Any age. Peasants of Los Angeles. They are paying the price of Ramon's cruel leadership. Teniente Gonzales: Male. Any age. Soldier to Ramon. Cruel to the citizens of Los Angeles. Padre: Male. Any age. The priest of Los Angeles. Kind, gentle and meek. Elena: Female. Any age. A peasant of Los Angeles that craves for Liberty. Wife to Ignacio. Arabella: Female. Any age. A peasant of Los Angeles that craves for Liberty. Wife to Ramon. Young Ramon: Male. Featured. 13 year old. A lonely boy who dreams of adventure. Singing role. Young Diego: Male. Featured. 12 year old. Best friends with Young Luisa. Loves to play like a sword fighter. Young Luisa: Female. Featured: 10 year old. Carefree child who is friends with Young Diego. STRONG ENSEMBLE NEEDED: Gypsies, Soldiers, Peasants, People of the Pueblo, Sailors, etc. to be played by the company. Dancers and singers will be very busy in this show. The show will consist of Flamenco sections that may be challenging.

Our Plazateers of Plaza Academy have created an incredible production of the Elvis Presley musical ALL SHOOK UP which closes this weekend. The show plays at the Cleburne Conference Center Theater (1501 W. Henderson Street) through tomorrow night - August 5th. There are three more chances to see these incredible young performers in action - tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30pm and tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm. Tonight we celebrate a new member of our 20 Show Club. Cheri Mega has been involved with Plaza Theatre Company from the very beginning. From our first preview performance at the Putt Putt Golf Course near Hulen Park. She was our first music director for You're a Good Man Charlie Brown in 2007. She has played the piano as "Cousin Melva" in every production of SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN and even been on the stage as Mother Abess in our 2008 production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Thank you so much Cheri, we feel so honored to have you on this journey with Plaza Theatre Company.
