Have you heard of Dr. Bennet Omalu? The holder of several degrees and a Forensic Pathologist in the state of California is an Ndiigbo!! Dr. Omalu was the first person to identify, name and publish his findings on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) while studying the brains of deceased NFL players. His findings have led to increased awareness of the long term risks associated with playing American football, and several rule changes to minimize the opportunities for and the sequelae from concussions. While the NFL has a long way to go to make the sport risk-free, it is clear that his discovery has forced the organization to continue to look for ways to make the sport safer. We are proud of this Igbo man and his accomplishments!! If you haven't already, check out the movie "Concussion" about Dr. Bennet Omalu's discovery of CTE starring Will Smith. Igbo kwenu!!
