Astoria Arts and Movement Center
Description
The AAMC studio is a 501c3 and a collection of passionate professionals who want to share our love of dance, movement, yoga, fitness & art with you. The AAMC was formed out of a direct need for a diverse dance, performing arts, and physical education studio that served ALL ages and offered a wide range of classes, recreational activities and specialty workshops open to the community on the North Coast.
Our Students
The AAMC extends ALL of its classes to every age, ability, gender, ethnicity, race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, economic class, and interest. Our students have ranged in ages from 6 to 71 and are from very diverse backgrounds. We partner with institutions and organizations such as Warrenton High School, Astoria High School, The Harbor, the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council, the Senior Center, Clatsop Community College, Columbia Memorial Health, the Lower Columbia Q Center, CASA, KMUN, and Clatsop Behavioral Health in an attempt to include individuals that may not consistently have access to arts and movement classes.
Our Instructors
All AAMC instructors are certified professionals passionate about teaching their craft. Each and every one is dedicated to their personal practice while committed to providing quality education and training to the community. Our instructors are continually inspired by their students, learning as much from them as they do from us.
Our Challenge
In order to operate and keep classes affordable ($5 to $10 per class) the AAMC relies on grant funding, donations and fundraising. We are a 502(c)3 non-profit organization (EIN 47 -2409238)
We KNOW there is a need for dance, performing art, physical education and recreational activities on the North Coast and we take this to heart. The AAMC seeks to meet this essential need, as it is our main objective that everyone has access to these vital things that strengthen us on both an individual and communal level.
Our Gratitude
On behalf of our instructors, our students, volunteers, and those who believe in the AAMC, I wish to thank all of our suporters. Your time, efforts and generosity makes it possible for the AAMC to continue to both inspire and serve the local community, endeavors we take directly to heart.

Ace of Swords
Belly Dance at 6pm, Choreo at 7:15!! Tonite's Choreo slot will be devoted to working with Swords and we'll use the Basics slot to work on many of the movements used in sword technique ⚔️☪️ Not to worry if you're new to sword work, we'll be practicing balancing techniques without them, but I will be bringing my family of swords and working closely with you on trying them to get a sense for what they feel like (if you have a belly dance sword please bring it). We'll be briefly going over the different types of swords, working with sword choreography and talking about the responsibility that comes with having a relationship with a blade. Here is a video from Dancer's Unite at Pier Pressure Productions - what an incredible opportunity to work with sword on that stage 🔥

Sparrow Dance Company Astoria, OR
Modern Dance w/ Julia! Saturday mornings starting at 9:30am. A great way to start your weekend!
After learning more arm work technique (like how to rotate my elbows! 😬😃) from the exquisite Julie Kovatch yesterday I was reminded what an incredible teacher she is. Join her (and some of her wonderful students pictured here!) for ITS Belly every Thursday at 5:30pm. Want to refine your dance technique even more? Stick around for Tango Technique and Connection with the enchanting Estelle Olivares at 6:45 followed by a Tango Practica at 7:45 💓🌞🔥
Belly Dance Basics at 6pm, Choreo at 7:15pm (both classes tonite will be combined)! Tonite's class is very special to me- it is all about Improv. Improv is about dancing in/on unfamiliar territory, about not knowing what comes next. There will be some discussion at the beginning of class and we'll work with the Baladi rhythm but there will be no mirrors, no 5-6-7-8. It is the opposite of following instruction and all about listening to your internal Dancer, the part of you that wants to move in response to the music and how it makes you feel. It is something every single one of you can do and something that I cannot teach and so I hope you'll join me this evening as we hand ourselves over to our own forms self expression. 🐍🔥💓 Thank-you Naomi Pena for another cool photo from the Lavender Farm last Saturday!
Tuesdays are for Swing and Latin with Rich!! Join us starting at 6pm- no partner required 😃 6:00 - 7:00pm Beginner West Coast Swing (Level 1) 7:00 - 8:00pm Intermediate West Coast Swing (Level 2) 8:00 - 9:00pm Latin Dance (Cha-Cha, Rumba and Salsa)
The AfroCaribe Dance Workshop w/ Kimberly Miguel Mullen is TONITE!! Get ready to learn some incredible dances from the Caribbean, Cuba & Brazil- $20 at the door and all levels welcome. This is one of my favorite workshops of the year so I hope to move, move, mooooove with some of you before having to run over to City Council 😃- See you at 5:30!! 🇧🇷🇨🇺🇹🇹
