Good news story highlighting an Osteopath's ability to diagnose a potentially fatal broken neck. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-43300393 Osteopaths study for four to five years for their Bachelors or Masters in Osteopathy. This involves extensive medical studies including neurophysiology and pathology, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology and much more. We are often the first port of call for many people in pain as the drain on the NHS becomes more apparent and waiting times lengthened to see their GP or consultant. We are lucky as osteopaths that we have the time to spend with patients. Our medical history taking is thorough, and we are often in the position where we can join the dots with many issues that patients have had for years. We may be the only person who gets all of the information in its totality, rather than seeing various separate consultants in the orthodox medical system we have in this country, which unfortunately tends to follow a more reductionist approach. Often when faced with all of the symptoms and medical background we are able to put the pieces together. Stories like this are thankfully not too common, but go a short way in showing the powerful nature of the hands and palpation in diagnosis, and the high levels of training and study that osteopaths have to cover (and continue to) in order to have the honour of being called an "Osteopath". 💜 Osteopathy #osteopathyworks #osteopathy
