Independent Delicatessen / food store based in Ullapool Come and visit our family run fine food delicatessen based in the picturesque Highland village of Ullapool on the shore of Loch Broom. Our aim is to bring the bounty of this area to the table.

We are proud of our extensive range of quality local Highland produce, sourced from small artisan suppliers, from smoked salmon, cured venison, award winning black pudding, the best of farmhouse cheeses to locally baked bread to name but a few.

All this is complimented by the traditional Continental delicacies, such as Italian cured hams, Spanish chorizo, French cheeses and Mediterranean olives and oils.

Plus, fresh from our tiny kitchen, homemade houmous, salads, pies, tarts and naughty cream cakes to tempt you.

So whether you are just after a quick espresso and a roll, ingredients for your supper, a picnic for the hills, a platter for a party or a welcome pack for your Highland stay. Call on us, we look forward to seeing you.

Don't forget the Black Bun for Hogmanay. Used for first-footing at Hogmanay, the gift of a black bun was meant to symbolise that the receiving family would not go hungry during the forthcoming year and as per Wikipedia it is to be consumed with plentiful whisky! Wee ones available at the Deli.

Tips to help create the perfect Christmas Cheese Board ........ No. 1. The Amount - as part of a meal we would suggest 125g - 150g of cheese per person. Choose 3 or 4 different styles of cheeses, more than that and it could be too much for the palate. No. 2. Styles/Textures - Cheddar, Stilton and Brie have always been popular as you have a hard, a blue and a soft, but to be more adventurous try the Scottish range of Isle of Mull Cheddar, Hebridean Blue and Morangie Brie. No. 3. Flavours - If the food served prior to the cheese course are heavy in flavours then think about selecting cheeses with stronger flavour so they compliment the preceding courses. No. 4. Where to Buy - West Coast Deli of course! We have a great selection, our cheeses are well cared for and in great condition and you can try before you buy. No. 5. Accompaniments - A good biscuit, cracker or well-made bread helps to compliment cheeses, as do chutneys, fruit confits and dried fruits. However don't over do it, less is more in this area. No. 6 Sit back and enjoy - Merry Christmas.
