Otto’s obnoxiousness. Guy and Beth recently needed my help in helping Otto understand how to operate when around dogs. Otto had developed some displays of aggressive lead reaction and as such, made Guy and Beth very nervous should they encounter a dog on their daily walks. This was a perfect case for Lara and Lottie to get involved with, and once my dogs had worked on Otto’s obnoxiousness and I worked on Beth’s lead AND leadership skills, then calmness ensued and we then were able to work Otto off-leash too, so overall a really positive and productive with some much needed social skills put in place. #Leadership - Saturday 14th April. Following on from the two successful sessions whereby 10 dogs were walked as a pack, I am putting in place another two sessions on Saturday 14th April. These will differ from a basic dog walk because I am offering to walk up to ten dogs per session who may suffer from, or a combination of: Lead reaction. Lead aggression. Lead anxieties. Lead excitement. Lead pulling. This is a session like no other offered by no other, whereby up to 10 dogs will be walked with me 'leading the pack.' This will be a fully interactive session as I will be encouraging owners to participate in not only the walk but at times during the session,, to walk other owners dogs to show how your own emotional attachment could actually be detaching you from being the true pack leader you NEED to be but more importantly, CAN be!!!! This event is open to anyone and everyone, regardless if you have already been to the previous one and wish to continue pack walking your dog or any newcomers who wish to see pack leadership in person, so I encourage you all to partake in this event and/or spread the word for such an extravaganza and I look forward to signing you up and seeing you next Saturday :) *** At the end of the sessions I will offer you a diagnosis on your dog and discuss any next steps needed. PM me if interested. "Great things can be achieved by ALL when we come together as ONE." Carla and Charlie connecting... A few weeks ago Carla asked me to help her control her adorable Charlie when off the leash, as his recall bless him was a little bit hit and miss choosing playtime over home time... So after we quickly established a recall routine that is in-keeping with how a canine brain ACTUALLY works, we soon had a failsafe recall regardless of surrounding stimulus. Yesterday we moved onto part 2 of Carla's canine connection which was to establish lead control by removing lead reaction. So after we taught Charlie the principles of pressure, enabling a language to be learned through the leash alone, minus the need for words or bribes, I then proceed to teach Carla how her timing was key and how her own aura and fluidity would be the final component in communicating with Charlie when connected to each other through a leash both physically and mentally. And as I keep saying... "The first four letters of the word leadership spell LEAD!!!" This is Carla's review from a few weeks ago 🙂 Carla Lambourne reviewed Craig Frost – 5 star We travelled miles to see Craig but it was worth it. Craig taught us distraction recall which I thought would be hard work with my Charlie but he got it instantly. On our walk to the park Craig noticed that leadership was the issue and taught me so much more than I paid for. Charlie has also stopped pulling on the lead. If you have any problem with your dog then go and see Craig. The problems are usually with us humans and once we understand how our dogs brains work and give them leadership and boundaries we will all have the perfect companions. #Impulsecontrol So a short video here showing how Lara and Lottie are helping Charlie with his off-leash impulse control 🙂 A lead, when mastered, will let your dog learn leadership and leadership is the foundation to your canine connection. A lead, when mastered, will act as an ‘anchor to the seabed’ so keeping your dog static when in stimulus based situations without the need for food or bribes. “The first four letters of the word ‘leadership’ spell ‘lead’...” CRAIG FROST I diagnose and then rehabilitate dominant, destablised and/or disobedient dogs by applying mindset correction so to develop their expected behaviour, social interaction and emotional stability. Happy Easter Ellie... I was contacted recently by Louise who was struggling with her beautiful blue Staffie, who since being spade had developed a change in personality that was far from friendly.... It is often the case that a dog who is fearful, will look to hide that fear by trying to evoke fear in others by offering a fearless display however as in Ellie' case this was a false bravado and once that fear bubble was burst, I had the underlying dog to work with and as such, get the balance and behaviour back to where it once was... Ellie took exception to the change of lead to begin with and tried to challenge me with this aforementioned fear manipulation but once that was counter-challenged and the battle of wills won, the change of lead led itself to a change of behaviour and once Louise was taught how to communicate with Ellie through positive lead pressure, Ellie was soon able to pass her peers free from lead reaction ready to begin the next phase, which is lead interaction. :) Here is the review from Louise's session on Sunday. Louise Hughes reviewed Craig Frost – 5 star What a super meet today, after recommending Craig to my clients in the past, we also needed his help with our blue young staffie Ellie! She has become lead reactive and certainly less confident with strangers approaching her. A positive short session this morning has given us more confidence and certainly we saw a quick turn around from Ellie, and her acceptance of meet and greet with her peers! We will be investing in a new slip lead, taking control and hoping we can carry this forward on our walks out. Thank you for your super training, for us as much as Ellie! Hope we don’t need you again for a session but if so look forward to it and your professional services. Louise and Joe and of course Ellie. #connecthroughintellect Want my single biggest piece of advice regarding you and your dog? Stop believing your dog thinks like you and instead, start to 'think' like your dog.... There is a reason we are different from our dogs; forgot opposable thumbs, number of legs and that we don't sniff our friends butts as a means of introduction (well maybe some of you do!) and that is quire simply, our BRAIN!!!! We are intellectual, our dog is instinctual. We are intellectual, our dog is impulsive. We are intellectual, our dog is impatient. The reason you need to understand this is because once understood, you will reevaluate your thoughts of 'training versus behaviour' and in turn reprioritise your training in order of actual importance in your relationship . Think about it for a second, what is more important, recalling a dog back from a potential situation or stopping from going there in the first place.... Put quite simply, If you can stop the mind you can stop the body because if you think of a negative action your dog has done, be it chewing the sofa, barking incessantly at a nearby dog. pulling like a train on the leash or running off into the sunset, it is the physical act you are trying to correct, which again simply put, is you being REACTIVE to the issue rather than being PROACTIVE towards it... I feel we are being advised by the masses to train our dogs in a way which can lead to problems as opposed to preventing them which is why this particular post is important because if we implant expected behaviours, install impulse control and invigorate the brain instead of the body, then our success rate as owners will grow and our connection to our canine canine companion is compounded through realtime results instead of sterile environment rewards. We need to believe that we are mentally superior to our canine companions and then use that new found belief to 'educate' their mind rather than having to correct their 'body' and by having a clear understanding in the differences in our thought process, the true distinction between having an intellectual brain as opposed to owning an impulsive one, will allow you to actually connect your intellect to their instincts.... EMMAzing.... Had the absolute pleasure last night of taking Emma, Lamara and Lewis to watch Russell Brand at the Bournemouth BIC. To start my evening with a nice Nandos and end it sat next to Emma listening to her laugh as Russell regales his rather risqué life story made me a very happy dog trainer indeed! Thanks guys for a great night and on a separate note, should Russell Brand come back to Bournemouth then do try and get tickets because the audience interaction and crowd participation was amazing, and you even get a free cookie... RIP Duke :( It breaks my heart to announce the passing of Duke, a beautiful Rottweiler who was a fortnight away from celebrating his sixth birthday :( I met Duke approaching two years when he was lovingly rescued by https://www.facebook.com/dave.evans.3386 and needed some support in curbing his distrust around women and children. After a brief stint ay my bootcamp program, Duke proceeded to be perfect gent and a gentle giant and became an integral part of the Evans family. Duke sadly passed away this morning from cancer and I would like to pass my condolences onto Dave and his family and although no words can mend a broken heart, I hope you will join me in passing on kind words as we mourn the loss of a great dog and a best friend. "Charlie come back" I was called recently by Carla who was having real trouble recalling her dog Charlie from other dogs. Although he was displaying no adversity when around dogs, a galloping large breed dog could unsettle a few nervous owners and dogs alike so as a responsible dog owner, Carla wanted to have some control over this... Carla travelled in excess of two hours to come and work with me so I was determined to make a huge difference to her dog in this session and the first thing I noticed was a lack of leadership from Carla and a lack of impulse control from Charlie. So we went straight to work to solve these issues as having this two sorted meant we had all the ingredients required for our recipe of recall :) I am proud to say that within the next twenty minutes that Carla had full control of Charlie off leash alongside a much better understanding of how the canine brain worked :) Here is Carla's review. Anything to stop the missus moaning 😂 Lara bless her, does malt a lot so when Emma pops out I get to work with Hetty the hoover so to hide the evidence! But what this video also shows is her natural calmness whatever situation she finds herself in and this is because above else, Lara is the epitome of a dog who is ‘well balanced’. #Heeling Lottie ‘the’ Rottie showing how to walk to heel WITHOUT a lead! Lottie can walk to heel with or without a leash regardless of in the day or in the dark, in a new situation or surrounded by high stimulus. This is because our relationship is built on emotional balance and expected behaviours and maintained through LOVE and LEADERSHIP. Altruism. I often wonder what it would be like to be devoid from ulterior motive and material possessions and instead be connected therefore guided, by nature thus using spirituality to become a free spirit. I often marvel at Lara, who has a supremacy about her that epitomises these thoughts turning them into beliefs giving me the impetus inspiration to become a better 'me'... We strive to make our dogs do more, be in the show ring, the work place or our home environment. We teach our dog commands and tricks in the belief our bettering their day but we never stop to think how they can actually better ours. Our canine companion can teach us far more than we can ever teach them if we were to just stop and actually see them for what they really are, they are much more than fabulous friend that is forgiving and fair. They are a mentor who can teach us that morals matter and materials don't... It amazes me that we put up posts of profound wisdom from world and business leaders alike, we quote everyone and anyone on our social media pages who we feel we can extract knowledge from yet our true spiritual leader is patiently sat beside us. Our dog is much more than a four legged friend, much more than a retriever of a ball or a party trick performer, our dog is a is a true voice from a its own silent voice and can truly educate us ready for us to emulate and therefore truly appreciate. Next time your sat down stroking your dog, try and look past the physical affection your giving and instead look into the spiritual feeling you are getting. Feel the love you are receiving for free, not obtained by purchasing the latest 'must have' to add into what you 'already have' and instead see what you actually 'truly have' right there in front of you. Try and feel the connection passing through the subconscious interaction and ask yourself if you, like your dog, can act in a truly altruistic way, you may just be surprised with the rewards it may bring...
