On the 1st March, Christine Aird Chairperson of the Tartan LUG [Lego User Group] donated a beautiful replica build of the former HM Convict Prison Peterhead. It will now be on permanent display within the museum shop area and visitors can not only see the outside of the buildings, but also get a glimpse inside the former cells, reception area and visitor centre. The build has around 3,000 blocks and taken 3 months to build and is now a central show piece in the museum. The museum team are delighted to accept such a wonderful donation and look forward to working with Christine and her colleagues in the years ahead at various Lego Exhibitions within the museum.

On the 3rd March the museum will be unveiling a large scale Lego build of the former prison, built over a three month period by Christine Aird the Chair of the Tartan Lego User Group (LUG) and using circa 3,000 bricks some of which came from different locations in the world. For all Lego enthusiasts this is a must see creation, with the detail not only showing the reception area, former visitors centre and main hall, but also the internal sections of all these areas. We would like to thank Christine for this wonderful donation that will certainly prove a talking point for all ages who visit the museum in the future.

Tours will take about one hour in duration and leave on the hour from 18:00 – 21:00 and a limit of 30 per tour will be supported. Dates in February will be, 5,6,7,12,14,19,20,21,26,27 and 28th. The tours will look at the “History and Mystery” of life within these walls and visitors will sense how it must have felt working in the halls when the “lights were out”. Please note these tours are not based on our Halloween Events held annually, nor similar to the events hosted every second month by the “Most Haunted Experience” team, but they will give you a sense of how it must have felt when darkness fell [and more]. Aged 18 years and over tickets are a standard £10 per person and because the tour follows the daytime route wheelchair access is possible. PLEASE NOTE WRAP UP WELL AS THINGS CAN GET A LITTLE “CHILLY WITHIN !!!”
