Chuck Gallery is an art space in Manchester dedicated to the promotion of modern and contemporary African art. Our collection is an eclectic mix of paintings by emerging and established African artists. Our aim is to generate interest in African art and engage the public in our extensive collection through various exhibition projects and gallery programs spanning the entire year.

The foundations of Chuck Gallery are rooted in Nigeria, West Africa where various gallery exhibitions and art fairs have been held, particularly in globally renowned metropolitan cities like Lagos and Abuja.

The gallery, through Marvel Arts - a sister company, has played host to young discoveries like Joel Aruaye and seasoned professionals including the likes of Fidel Oyiogu. In these exhibitions we have sought to promote budding artists, exposing what the gallery considers as prospective latent talents. The move from the shores of Nigeria to Manchester, one of the top three most visited cities in the UK, is in pursuant to our vision of bringing the attention of the international community to the artists represented.

The gallery has a unique position of being a private gallery led by Chukwudi Onwudiwe, a famous Lagos art dealer and collector of young Nigerian artists. He is also the founder of Lagos-based art dealing firm Marvel Arts Ltd. He is responsible for developing and managing the collection of Chuck Gallery. The primary purpose of which is to promote the creation, enjoyment and appreciation of visual arts by way of art fairs, exhibitions, salons, seminars and workshops.

Chuck gallery is excited to be able to bring to our audience an appreciable range of good quality paintings and other creative expressions. Our collections management policy requires that the collections are original and produced by top rate, established artists. Often, Chuck gallery’s collections are inspired by assiduity for respectable standards. Therefore, the collections team ensures that these items are painstakingly selected. The gallery’s survival and growth is dependent on continuing patronage by appreciators and collectors.

#wednesdaywisdom Iconic danfo buses & hustle on a typical day in Isale Eko superbly captured by Damola using chiaroscuro style is a reminder that⏰is precious and doesn't wait for anyone! Lagos is indisputably the busiest Nigerian city, and Isale Eko contributes significantly to this reputation. Isale Eko, has been described by one Nigerian Daily (Vanguard) as the "commercial nerve centre of Lagos." Damola highlights interesting details in the foreground of this painting danfo buses, rusted roofs, a lone shack at the edge of the highway but does something more significant: He screens the subject matter from our view with a dividing curtain of newspaper clippings that hang from the sky. It is a neat trick because these hanging columns of text become a portal through which we get a sense of what vibrant community must exist on the other side of the bridge. Isale Eko must be a beehive of activity we think, and maybe, when next we are in Lagos, it might be worth our while to board a danfo and head out to Isale Eko. #Memories Did you ever attend an Egungun Festival? Today's feature - Egungun Festival from Adepoju. The vibrant colours, fierce and confident stance of the masquerades say it all. The Egungun Festival has been described as the most colourful of Yoruba festivals. Not surprisingly, Damola, for who Lagos provides an exuberant milieu, has freely used colour in this painting to capture the spirit of the famed festival. Costuming is a key aspect of the Egungun Festival. Great effort goes into the choice of fabric that is used in creating the many layers of clothing the masquerade will put on. Layering plays a significant role because as the masquerade dances and spins around, the layers of clothing swirl at different heights, adding to the majesty of the masquerade and his dance. #Africanart #AfricanCulture #Contemporaryart https://t.co/ZautuMMo4m

#tbt Throwback to Unmasking by Omitola. The painting, Origin, is in keeping with her captivating use of colour in depicting varied female forms. “Origin” is an exciting piece, especially as there are three faces to explore. With touches of bright colours in one of the characters head-tie, showing Kente cloth from Ghana. Blended and fused colour work on the background makes the portrait come to the forefront of this piece. Chuck Gallery, #ContemporaryAfricanArt #paintingoftheday https://t.co/mzOcwjAgQE
