Macduff Lifeboat Station operates an inshore B class Atlantic 85 lifeboat. Our current boat is the Lydia Macdonald. Founded in 1860 Macduff lifeboat station has had several names and locations but since 1975 the station has been in Macduff.

We are unique in the RNLI being the only station to launch their inshore lifeboat by using a mobile crane. While our usual launch location is Macduff harbour, we can if needed drive our crane to any of the small harbours along the coast and launch from there.

We have a shop on site at the station which is open 2-4pm on Wednesdays & Saturdays from May to December.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues in the Irish Coast Guard today. We all go out on shouts expecting to come home after the job is done. Sadly sometimes this doesn't happen.

In light of this weeks tragic event. If anyone would like safety advice around coastal and on-water activities RNLI lifeboat stations are able to provide this. We can also provide information and support for clubs and groups that use the coast for recreational activities.

Statement from Macduff RNLI in relation to the ongoing search for Dominic Jackson on Wednesday 8 February. Whilst we understand and appreciate the overwhelming desire of people in the local communities, and from further afield, to help search for Dominic, we must urge caution and ask people not to start independent searches along the coast or in the water today. The weather conditions in the search area are very changeable and generally poor. We would ask that rowers who have arrived in the search area to heed the advice from the Police and not enter the water to try and assist with the search. The primary focus for all the search teams today is to find Dominic and none of us would want to have to divert valuable resources away from the search to help well meaning members of the public, should they get in to difficulty whilst trying to help.

Safety Note. The search for Dominic Jackson is still on going and being coordinated by Police Scotland and HM Coastguard. We have seen a number of posts on Facebook about people going searching for Dominic. While we all feel the same way about finding Dominic, we would like to urge some caution about locally arranged searches or good samaritans going out on their own today to search. If you feel that you do want to go out and help: If at all possible join one of the pre organised larger search groups. We believe that people are meeting at Banff Police Station at 8:30 this morning to start a coordinated search with the police and local Coastguard units. In other locations, please contact the police locally to find out what group searches are being arranged. If you can't join a locally organised search, please work in small groups, or at the very least in a pair, but never alone. Tell someone where you are going from and to. Tell them how long you expect to be out for and check in by phone regularly, if your plans change, update your point of contact. The last thing we need is to be searching for anyone else when our focus needs to be on searching for Dominic. Please wear appropriate clothing. The weather conditions along the coast are not great this morning, rain is forecast for most of the day with temperatures expected to be about 5c and with the wind chill it will feel a lot colder. If you start to feel cold, stop searching and head somewhere warm, being cold will make you lose focus on what you are doing. Make sure that you update the search coordinators or whoever your point of contact is so they know where you are. Take some food, chocolate bars are good :) Make sure you have a mobile phone, or VHF radio, it is charged and you have service where you are going. Do not take any unnecessary risks, don't go to close to the edge of cliffs to look over the edge. The lifeboats have carried out a detailed coastline search and looked in all of the little coves & neuks. The Coastguard have specially trained teams who can access these areas if needed. If you do see something of interest, first, call for help. You should be given information about how to do this by the search co-ordinator, if in doubt call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, give them your location and details of what it is you have seen. Do not risk your own safety, stay in contact with the coastguard and they will get people to you. It is more important that if you see an object in the water, that you keep your eyes on it so you don't lose sight of it. Stand safely away from any hazards, point, with your arm fully extended, to it and keep looking along your arm. Turn your whole body and not just your arm as it moves. This will help you keep the object in sight and help people coming to you, to find and focus on what you are looking at. Do not go in to the water, it is more important to keep the object in sight so you can direct people to it. High tide in Banff is 8:50 this morning and low tide 3pm this afternoon. *Please check your LOCAL tide times before heading out* Sunset is 4:52pm you should plan to be away from the coast by then. Stay safe.

Update on this mornings service call. Macduff lifeboat is currently performing a coastline search of the area from Portsoy to Troup Head. We are working with our flank stations Fraserburgh Lifeboat & RNLI Buckie Lifeboat. Colleagues from HM Coastguard are coordinating the search which includes two helicopters and shore crews. We will update the call later today.
