Nigeria Art Society UK was registered as a limited liability company in 2013 to represent the professional interests of Nigerian artists in the diaspora. About Us
Nigeria Art Society UK was registered as a limited liability company in 2013 to represent the professional interests of Nigerian artists in the diaspora. Although most of the society’s members received formal art training from Nigeria’s leading art institutions and have relocated abroad to further their professional art practice, membership is open to all artists of Nigerian descent working in the diaspora irrespective of where they received art training. The idea of a collective of Nigerian artists working outside Nigeria was conceived in the 1990′s when the UK art scene was a lot more segregated and marginalized, much unlike today when outlets for visibility, access and audience are manifold, thanks in no small part to the Internet, globalization and multicultural understanding.

The Society’s core objective is to raise the visibility and awareness of the artists’ works through exhibitions, seminars, presentations and educational events; as well as create avenues for collaborations with art organisations around the world.

In line with the objective, the association has held three successful exhibitions and seminars and is in discussion for thought provoking exhibitions lined up till 2018

GOODWILL MESSAGE FOR THE ART EXHIBITION OF HASSAN ALIYU (NASUK) IN THE UK ON 10TH OCTOBER 2016 By Nelson A. Olawaiye (Hassan's Art teacher from 1976 a 1981) With unquantifiable joy in my heart, I write this goodwill message for the Art Exhibition of Hassan Aliyu, holding as from the 10th October 2016 in London, United Kingdom. Please keep moving, Hassan; and don’t stop on this professional journey of yours. I have always said that our world needs two kinds of people, (i) DOERS, not talkers; I mean not talkers who cannot walk their talk, and (ii) people with a MINDSET that is avowedly focused on reaching the topmost top in their chosen professions, I believe that Schools should translate potentials into mature talents by firstly: generating in students a curiosity- mentality, a questioning spirit, a drive for discoveries, and do- it- for- yourself search for possibilities of answers and solutions. Secondly, our schools should by ways of motivation, prophecy, and sociological rapport, promote in students a rich gamut of ideas, skills, and eventual productivity. After all, it is upon these three pillars (of ideas, skills, and productivity) that civilizations are built and developed (Africa in particular needs all these three for practical problem-solving.) Our dear Hassan, I wish you many more successes, and I sincerely hope that your Art Exhibition will attract great Art lovers and other prominent persons, who would love your Art works very much, and also yearn to promote Tourism to Nigeria through the Arts. To all my former Art Students, I say that we all share in the successes of one another, and mark you, teachers are indomitably dexterous drivers who drive their students through shifting horizons and landscapes on their journeys through life and the professions. Now, I close with this metaphor: let us drive now-all of us- through our cherished-familiar landscape of greatness: OF COURSE YOU CAN.
