Sadly, this is all too common a scenario. Child Tooth Decay is entirely preventable by following simple advice: **Disclaimer- it is not easy to always follow this advice, you may well end up feeling like a party pooper, but then how would you feel if your child contributed to this jar?** • Brush Twice daily with Family strength Fluoride toothpaste 1450ppm (this is new(ish) advice for all ages, but check age appropriate amount). •Spit don't rinse and nothing but water after night time brush. • Cut down Sugar in diet. This includes those lovely treats, sweets, cakes, biscuits, ice cream and chocolate. Keep these items as rare treats and better as "Pudding not Snack". • Beware of hidden sugars. These are an increasing problem in the modern diet and things to watch out for are "kiddie temptations" like cereals, yoghurts, dried fruit, muesli bars, baked beans, tomato ketchup and even some ready made sauces. Check the ingredients and try to switch to "No sugar/ Low sugar" alternatives. • Keep drinks neutral- milk or water. Avoid squashes or juices as they are still acidic and will damage teeth. • Only allow water in day bottles for kids. • NO FIZZY DRINKS • Visit your dentist for regular recalls • This advice works for adults too!
