18th Century family & dog friendly thatched pub in Hail Weston - offers teas, coffees, cake, lunch, evening meals, children's menu, private events The Royal Oak is a 17th-century public house in the village of Hail Weston, Cambridgeshire. This Grade II listed building served as a social centre of Hail Weston life for generations but was sold by the Charles Wells Pub Company in November 2011 and closed as a pub on January 1st 2012.

There followed a long campaign by the Hail Weston Community Pub Society to save The Royal Oak from redevelopment. This led to it being declared an Asset of Community Value in 2013 which effectively stopped it being sold as anything but a working pub.

In January 2017 The Royal Oak was bought be a group of eight local villagers and, with the help of over 100 community volunteers, the building has been refurbished and reopened as an independent village pub on May 19th 2017.

We look forward to The Royal Oak again being back at the heart of the community.

One final reminder of this evening's pub quiz and the fine local cause that it is raising money for. Dawn Isaac (small child not included) is our quiz master tonight and half the pot is going towards the church restoration fund here in Hail Weston. Its only £1 per person and it starts at 7.30pm. May the best-named team win...

This weekend may be all about the FA Cup but this time next week it'll be the turn of the egg chasers to take over our sporting consciousness as the RBS Six Nations kicks off. We're showing every game live in our heated rugby marquee which means it all starts at 2.15pm next Saturday afternoon with Wales vs Scotland, followed closely afterwards by the equally appealing France vs Ireland at 4.45pm. And because it'll be a long afternoon, we'll be serving burgers and hotdogs for the duration of the games to help you make it through to the end. See you for kick off!

The beautiful old church of St Nicolas has stood in the centre of Hail Weston for over 800 years, and is now in the throes of a major restoration project to ensure its survival for future generations to enjoy. It's very exciting but fiercely expensive - to the tune of about £300K - which obviously means a lot of fundraising. That's where Sunday's Royal Oak pub quiz comes in. Whilst unlikely to raise those kind of numbers (although you never know...), this week's quiz master (none other than Dawn Isaac in all her magnificence) has nominated the restoration fund as the recipient of half the pot. Its £1 per person to enter so all we need is 600,000 people joining us for a few questions, some banter and maybe even a drink or two to finish the weekend off!

If you're wondering what to do with the kids tomorrow, you could always bring them down to the Royal Oak at 11am for an hour's FREE crafting session. They can learn to make corner bookmarks, draw 3D pictures, make a kazoo, craft paper aeroplanes, make fortune tellers or create paper helicopters - it's up to them! We do ask that parents stay to supervise, but there's nothing to say you can't do that at the same time as enjoying a lovely coffee and cake...
