Snaparts 85 - 52 Spartans. Snaprats were ony able to put a squad of 6 out tonight as some players were unavailable to make the match due to other commitments, however, as the score line shows the team put on a winning display. With a small squad it is often best to start slowly, try to control the game and make sure that by the fourth quarter there is enough energy left in the tank to keep going. The first quarter was a close afair with the Rats being hustled by the young Spartan side who put a press on right from the tip. By the use of screens, fast passing and not using too much energy in defence, the Rats were only up by 4 when the Q finished, (18 - 14.) A slight change of tactics helped the Rats go further ahead in the second when they turned to their fast break, started to take defensive rebounds and slowed the game to their pace. the half finished 39 - 28. At the start of the third it was decided to increase the pace, (just for the one Q,) and hunt in pairs in offence. Add to that , getting the ball up quicker on inbounds and, spaces started to open up for the Rats attack. With Spartans sticking to their game plan, the Snaprats went about using a disruptive three minute period where they literally kept changing their style of play. This seemed to work well and an 8 point run with no reply ensured that there was a big enough margin between the teams to take it a little slower in the fourth. With the scores at 58 - 34 the fourth enabled the Rats to again go into a slower, more controlled more. Not under-estimating the young Spartans though, the home team kept the score ticking over and finished the game with a 27 - 18 quarter score. Our thanks to the Officials who refereed and Tabled and our thanks to the supporters too. There are a few action photos attached incuding Jim 'slamming' off a fast break.

Barton Nitros 71 - 40 Snaprats dev team. Our very young dev players went across to Barton this afternoon and had a really enjoyable time playing against the Nitros. Barton always play a solid game but today they put some of their young development Basketball players out to gain experience and play more minutes than perhaps they would get normally. That is the joy of development league games and both teams hopefully learned a few things from the game. Snaprats D are coming along well and with three senior players at times playing along side the young Snaprats guiding them on court, the Dev team managed a creditable 40 points. At times the lack of physical height went against the young Rats but they kept their pass and move game going and used screens to open spaces to drive and lay up. As you will see from a few of the attached photo's there was, occasionally a bit of a miss match in height when the Dev players were man marking, but in all, a great deal was gained by our players from this match. Our thanks go to Barton for letting our players play and for a friendly yet competitive game. Our thanks to the match officials and to the parents and supporters that were there. Our Dev team really are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
