Northumbria Police is celebrating this year's International Volunteer Day with Northumbria Volunteers giving up their time to make a difference in their community.
Across the force Special Constables, Community Speedwatch schemes and Northumbria's Volunteer Police Cadets volunteer hours of their own time to support policing.
Northumbria Volunteers get involved in a wide range of activities all aimed at making communities even safer.
And, on Monday, December 5, a range of activities are being carried out by volunteers across the force to help communities and to celebrate the occasion.
In Sunderland and South Tyneside officers are facilitating day attachments for volunteers in a variety of departments including the Northumbria Police Air Support Unit,  Motor Patrols, CID, Marine Unit and with Scenes of Crime Officers.  There are also Special Constables working with 24/7 response officers and neighbourhood teams as part of their normal commitment.  
In North Tyneside a volunteers evening event is being held at Middle Engine Lane Police Station. Officers have invited a wide range of volunteers to attend including Police Cadets, Special Constables, Street Pastors, Community Speedwatch Volunteers, Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and Pub Watch members to help celebrate the day and discuss their volunteering roles. In Northumberland Special Constables will be volunteering for extra police duties on Monday to help mark the day, with some wearing body worn cameras to record the incidents they deal with.
