HAMPDEN PARK TENNIS CLUB ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!! Hampden Park Men’s 1st team have started the summer season in breathtaking form and have stormed to the top of the league. The team play in the Sussex Aegon Team Tennis league, where each match consists of 6 rubbers with a point awarded for each rubber won. Teams of 4 seeded players each play one singles match against the opposing seeded player followed by 2 doubles matches. The opening match of the season was a tricky away game at Brighton but despite the unusual court surface the team of Stuart Hobden, Simon Gent, Colin Paterson and Jeremy Bennett came away with a comfortable 6-0 win Another away game at Meads proved more of a challenge with Stuart Hobden and Colin Paterson both involved in tight matches one won and one lost in tie break sets. Richard Ellis and Jeremy Bennett both won their singles and the team won both of the doubles rubbers giving Hampden Park a 5-1 win. Comptons Tennis Club from Horsham provided the opposition for the first home match and Matthew Mowle justified his selection by winning 2 tie break sets to win his rubber as the team again cruised to a 6-0 win. Virgin Active Tennis club from Brighton arrived at fortress Hampden Park and departed 4 hours later having received a 6-0 thumping. The outstanding performance coming from Colin Paterson who saved 3 match points in a third set tie break to win the rubber for Hampden Park. In a data obsessed sport the results for Hampden Park make pleasing reading. Matches played 4 won 4, rubbers won 23 rubbers lost 1, sets won 46 sets lost 4! Well done gents on such consistent and outstanding performances. Anyone interested in social or match play tennis check out the website. http://hampdenparktennis.co.uk/

An amazing win for Hampden park against pav and Ave tennis club. It was an 18&unders fixture with Zac and Tom stepping up from the 14&unders team to help out. After 4 hours of intense match play Hampden park managed to win after Ben and Harrison saved 4 matched points on the doubles to make the standings 3-3. Tom and Harrison then played a deciding doubles and won after coming back in the tiebreak. Amazing performance boys plus it was their first time on clay for most of them.

Sundays adult/junior tennis tournament in memory of one of our past members Len Travis was an absolute roaring success. 14 adults and 19 juniors turned out to play in several matches which had a junior and an adult playing against another adult and junior and these being rotated so everyone played with and against someone different each time. Len's daughters Jackie and Kirsty were at the tournament, Jackie playing and Kirsty supporting. Kirsty also brought a rather delicious array of cakes and scones for all. After some fantastic games being played over 2 and a half hours of tennis a winner was announced. The two adult joint winners were Lynsey Swingler and Andrew Lloyd who won a tube of tennis balls each. The junior runner up was Izzy Widdows and the overall junior winner who was awarded the Len Travis Trophy by Jackie, one of Len's daughters was Tom Tyrwhitt-Walker. Massive congratulations to our winners and runner up and well done to everyone for their amazing efforts on the court. We saw some skilful displays of tennis by such promising youngsters. The adults weren't bad either! So overall a great afternoon was had by all and as a bonus money was raised for Macmillan nurses for the teas and buffet provided. Thanks to Jenny Hughes for facilitating this wonderful tournament, to everyone for contributing to the food and great tennis, all the supporters and last but by no means least to Len's lovely family. A fitting tribute to a well loved man.

Don't forget we've got the Len Travis Adult/Junior tournament coming up at the club very soon. When? 3-6pm on Sunday 30 April 2017. Len Travis was a valued member of the club who was very well thought of. He loved his tennis and very sadly passed away following a great afternoon of playing at the club. The tournament is dedicated to him and played every year in his honour. Len's family kindly donated the cup which can be won by the winning Junior on the day. Adults play with a different Junior over a series of rounds making it an exciting and varied tournament to play in. If you're interested in playing please contact Jenny our coach on 07831097864 Juniors you can sign up in the clubhouse as well.
