Inside the polly tunnel we have had a bit of a clear up, this so we are ready for the new growing season. In September we sowed out some wild flower seed inside the tunnel, these are now starting to sprout. The brussel sprouts have been really good, last year was the first time we have grown them

Two new signs, up-cycled by some of the senior students from Falkirk. These were made from old slate tiles which have come up a treat. Many thanks to the boys.

It is with great sadness that I post this. It is stressful and upsetting when we cannot protect our livestock, pets and livelihood. We have had fireworks set off from some of the houses which neighbour the farm this happened at Halloween, Guy Fawkes and the days in between. In the case of the pregnant ewes, there is only 8 yards between the gardens and the field, this is a small field and is only 70 yards wide. In the case of a small farm such as mine the sheep go where the grass is and at this time of year there is not much. The ewes which are in the early stages of pregnancy broke 2 fence posts and where found pinned to the fence in fear. It is yet unknown as to the damage this may have done to the lambing percentage .The time then spent clearing the field of rockets and debris to prevent the ewes from eating any of it is then another job. The horses at least are inside with lights on radio on, but due to the closeness of the fireworks this caused them to panic. My greatest concern being my pregnant mare Aero who sweated huge amounts due to being so upset, and all I could do was to talk to her and pray nothing bad would happen to her unborn foal. FIREWORKS so close to livestock, pets, horses and wildlife have such a detrimental effect on them. I feel extremely fortunate to live in the most beautiful part of Scotland, words fail me as to the lack of respect of some people. Out of all that walks, swims, hops, flys or crawls on this planet, humans must be the most selfish.

Autumn is now definitely here. Our students, most of who have been off on holiday over the summer are now back and full of new ideas for projects. The first one started is to make a small pond in the polly tunnel we use for growing in, watch this space for further up dates.
