Gig - Candy Says with support from Joe Slater and Ben Corby

Ben Corby opens for… Joe Slater, who opens for…the one and only Candy Says. Ben Corby still holds the record as the youngest performer here (then aged 9) and he opens for Joe Slater, Songwriter/Musician/Scouser as he describes himself on FB. A former star on Waterloo Road and now professional musician, he is driven, original and passionate about music. He has written music both the Beatles and Oasis would have been proud to put their names to. All three of tonight’s offerings are completely original and out in front is Juju of Candy Says. Formerly Little Fish releasing her first album with Custard/Universal then Juju created Candy Says from which ‘Not Kings‘ was produced. This music was used in the award winning film, Burn Burn Burn A recent music review declared she has the best voice in Oxford…which when you consider Oxford is the home of Gaz Coombes of Supergrass and Thom Yorke. Praise, yep, and honest observation too. This show will sell out well ahead of time…be warned!

Gig - Little Brother Eli with support from the Alpacas

Headlining are Little Brother Eli This is certainly one of my exciting finds of 2017 “…the band have a sound that can transcend to a wide audience… to the extent that I kinda think I’d hang out with them and have a good time.” said Huey Morgan – BBC 6 Music They’ve been together four years and their well honed tight technical ability is matched by their very real passionate sound. Get ready! Support comes from The Alpacas a London based multi-national pop rock band. Their music is lyrics driven, melodic, each song having a story and a personal feel. They started as a duo in November 2011, as an exciting collaboration between Romanian singer-songwriter Andrei Ionescu and Mexican guitarist Jorge Sapién, playing in various London venues. Bags of melodies and music you can sing in your head after just one listening.

Gig-Hannah White with support from Sarah Cosgrove

Hannah White is a singer songwriter, an ambassador of independent art of all kinds and a feminist. Following a life changing incident, Hannah was compelled to write a collection of songs about being a woman. Hannah has already performed here and she broke so many hearts with her raw passion, amazing music voice which is filled with pain, suffering and sometimes joy too…she is really rather special. Sarah Cosgrove is more local, or at least her mum lives quite near to us and comes from the Indie/Alternative, Lo-fi, Pop, Folk genre, recording in her bedroom and gigging as often as she can…it will be her first appearance here…can’t wait. Photos from The Drawingroom music venue's post

I write to share the sad news that Les Payne, musician, composer, producer, husband, father and friend died in his sleep early this morning. Les Payne had been coming to The Drawingroom right from the earliest of days, 2003/4. It was Les who provided all the sound, stage and lighting equipment along with his humour and a spare guitar...he was and remains pure gold to me. He leaves a legacy of 600+ published songs, a loving family unit together with an army of friends and fans. Writing and producing right until the last..he never stopped, nor did he give in... as UK most gigged musician, he really is a shining star.

Gig Lorne and Hope

Lorne is a local lad who is slowly building his fan base, plays and writes his own music, on piano/keys and is more than a worthy opening act for Hope (https://www.facebook.com/hope.russellwinter) who played here last year. She’s a regular on BBC 3CR and a featured artist on BBC introducing. Having recently been a guest of BBC 3CR myself, as I stepped into their studio, I thought the music was familiar; it was Hope’s music which was being played. Haunting and beautiful, Hope has a big voice for just 17 years of age and as such becomes the youngest musician to headline here…come and find out why.

Gig Sean Taylor and Joe Slater

“An absolutely superb guitarist … reminiscent of John Martyn” said Whispering Bob Harris, with a string of serious musicians who support and truly believe in him. He sings the blues with a raw energy, charming tunes and is a total professional. My 1st really important discovery of 2017…ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I give you Joe Slater " Did you write these songs?" I asked “I’m a singer songwriter” he answered…“not a pop star.” He’s written music Oasis or the Beatles would have been proud to write, not least by the age of just 20…and he plays most of the instruments on his recordings. His sings with the the same passion and raw energy of Paulo Nutini…and guess what, I’m really excited about this man’s future. He is such a worthy support to Sean Taylor.
