Best Friends Veterinary Group consists of 36 companion Animal Vet surgeries, caring for pets across seven counties in the UK.
Best Friends Veterinary Group celebrates its 25th year in the Veterinary Industry this year. The group was founded by Dr Andrew Bennett back in 1991 and now consists of 36 surgeries across seven counties, employs over 200 staff and is still managed by the man himself! We are one of the largest independent veterinary groups in the UK.

Our clients and your loved ones can benefit from access to vets that are qualified in areas such as exotics, orthopedics and soft tissue surgery, as well as our schemes to help save you money on the regular ‘bits and bobs’, such as annual boosters, flea and worm treatments, food and accessories, and even pet insurance!

At Best Friends, we pride ourselves on offering the best possible care at competitive prices.  We strive to offer our clients the best deals on many routine procedures, as well as appointments to suit you outside of the standard 9 – 5 working hours (hence why the majority of our surgeries offer week night appointments)!

Our staff thrive on getting to know you and your pet’s medical history, as we understand that the relationship between your pet and us is crucial when it comes to allowing us to caring for your furry friend; and when their care may just need that extra bit of love or attention, we have the benefit of being able to refer them to our very own Veterinary Hospital in Peterborough, to help keep costs low for you and allow us to discuss their medical needs with our own members of staff, also working under the ‘Best Friends’ umbrella.

At Best Friends Veterinary Group, you can trust us to look after your best friend.

It might only just be back to school time, but it’s also the best time to start thinking about preparing our pets for the party season. One easy way to prepare your home is through pheromone plugs and sprays. The pheromones mimic reassuring hormones given off by mother cats and dogs which can help settle your pets in distressing situations. 🎆🐈🐕

Huge thanks to Rachel at Best Friends Shenfield and Carly at Orchid Branch who were both incredibly kind and super-sensitive to this upset cat-owner over the phone today. As suggested, am sharing a few pics of our family cat "Sami" who has been missing from Gubbins Lane since 24th February - spotted by four different kind people in the Nags Head Lane cul de sac/bridleway area on various occasions from June onwards. More pics on Facebook page 'Sami Weston Come Home'. We would love to have him home safe and sound before the nights turn cold again. He is neutered and microchipped and 13 years young! X

It is currently harvest mite (berry bug) season. These tiny red mites live in grass and vegetation throughout the UK but are only active late summer time. The larvae of these mites can attach to your pet’s skin and cause irritation, whilst repeated attacks can cause allergic reactions. They look like bright red dots “paprika in appearance. Try and keep your pet away from high risk areas where larvae are known to be a problem. If they contract mites through running in grass, washing their paws and bellies may help to remove them. In severe cases if the larvae are numerous, or if the sores become infected or excessively itchy your pet may need veterinary treatment – call the vets on 01277 221193 to ask for recommendations. 🐈🐕

Around this time of year grass seeds injuries are very common. Small foxtail seeds can get stuck to our pets’ fur and penetrate the skin. We suggest regularly checking over your dogs and cats for grass seeds, particularly around the feet and ears where they commonly become lodged. Common symptoms of a grass seed injury can be shaking head and ears, excessively licking toes, swollen paws, and red lumps on the skin. Call the team at Best Friends on 01277 221193 if you are concerned about grass seeds. 🐈🐕
