I attended an informative and entertaining talk last night at Astley Castle, given by the redoubtable and frankly fabulous Sarah Jane Downing. Fashion in the time of Shakespeare, with lots of anecdotes relating to Mary Fitton, so a local connection. It did seem all rather poignant, Sarah Jane lead us not only through the fashion of the day but the often scandalous affairs of the protagonists. The backdrop to all this was the vista from the Castle windows, North Warwickshire countryside at its best, simply magnificent. I suppose it could have been the complimentary vino ! If you would like to hear Sarah Jane, she will be giving her next talk at Blakeley Hall, Yardley, Birmingham on 10th July
