Wilthorpe Primary School is one of the largest primary schools in the Barnsley area. Our school is a happy, thriving school with dedicated staff and Governors who work very had to provide the very best for the children in their care. Children and staff alike consistently strive for excellence in all that they do. We do this with determination, perseverance and a great deal of enjoyment. At the end of the celebration assemblies each Friday when children receive a variety of awards, the children shout and sing “Never give up!”

We are very proud of all of the many achievements of the children and the staff and we hope that you and your child will be very happy here.

CHILDREN IN NEED DAY - FRIDAY Following on from your comments regarding what to wear on Friday, I have sought clarification from Mr Tombling - children can wear anything that is Children in Need related so long as they bring in a silver coin as a donation. Any child not wishing to participate must wear their school uniform. I hope this clears up the confusion. A text will be going out this morning also. Thanks

WELL DONE to Luke Gorman and Elliot Mitchell in 4 Discovery and Ellie Gorman in 1 Jupiter who did a litter pick and raised a whopping £60 for the RNLI! We are having a bun sale in Moon and Stars on Thursday 16th November (20p/30p for buns and cakes) so we are hoping to raise even more money for the RNLI.

Well done to Jacob and Morgan in Y4 Discovery, who decided to do a sponsored swim to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as part of their ‘Only the Brave’ topic. Not only did the two courageous boys raise money, they inspired their swimming coach and two other swimming club members to get involved and, in total, have raised over £400! They even had their photograph taken by Barnsley Chronicle for an article about their fundraising exploits. Y4 are still raising money for the RNLI – some of the pupils have done a sponsored litter pick, there is a donation box in Mrs Rao’s classroom and we are having a bun sale in the Stars building at break time on Thursday 16th November. We hope to put the money raised in school together with that raised by Morgan and Jacob and their swimming club coach and make a presentation to the RNLI in school.

NEWSLETTER - Issue 3 – 6TH November 2017 Dear Mums, Dads and Carers We hope you have had a good half term. All of the staff were very busy during the INSET day clearing out both buildings, hopefully you can see a difference. We have moved the library in Moon Building in order to raise the profile of reading in the school, by creating a welcoming open space for the children to sit with a book. Many of the books in both schools are tired and need replacing. The PTA is going to use their funds to replenish the books and furniture in both libraries to engage our children in reading. Special Mention Assembly From Friday 17th we will begin to invite parents and carers to attend the special mention assembly if their child has been nominated. Star Building assembly will be at 9:05am and Moon Building will be at 2:55pm every Friday. We do appreciate for some it will be very difficult to attend due to other commitments, but we do want to create the opportunity for those who can attend. If your child has been nominated for Special Mention or Learning Champion you will receive a text on the Wednesday inviting you to attend the assembly on the Friday. Year 3 Door Some people have expressed concerns with the Year 3 door, where the children come in on a morning, not being held open correctly. School is aware of the issue and are currently dealing with the company that fitted the door. As the door is currently still under warranty, if school makes alteration to that door eg adding a hook, the warranty becomes invalid. We appreciate your patience whilst we deal with this matter and we will look to making alternate arrangements for the children if the situation prolongs much further. After School Clubs We are currently reviewing the situation regarding children who attend the Out of School Club in Moon Building being unable to attend after school clubs in Star Building. If this impacts upon your child, and there is an after school activity they would like to attend, please contact myself and I will discuss the option available to you. The clubs start next week and are £12.00 for the block of 6, to reserve a place and pay please go to www.schoolgateway.com YEAR 1 and 2 TUESDAY - DANCE CLUB – Tuesday 14th November to Tuesday 19th December WEDNESDAY – FOOTBALL with Barnsley FC – Wednesday 15th November to Wednesday 20th December YEARS 3, 4, 5 and 6 MONDAY – FOOTBALL with Barnsley FC – Monday 13th November to Monday December 18th December WEDNESDAY – DODGEBALL - Wednesday 15th November to Wednesday December 20th December THURSDAY – DANCE – Thursday 16th November to Thursday 21st December Parents Evening 13th to 15th November https://wilthorpeprimaryschool.parentseveningsystem.co.uk to book your slot. Bags2School The collection day is Tuesday 14th November for all your unwanted clothing, shoes, handbags, soft toys, etc. Bags can be brought to school from Monday 13th November and not before as we do not have the storage space. Children in Need Day If your child would like to come to school dressed in something spotty for Children in need please send them in with a donation to help raise funds. https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/fundraisinghub Flu Immunisation Can you please return all authorisation slips as soon as possible. The immunisation will take place in both buildings on Friday 1st December, this is administered by nasal spray. PTA News The next PTA meeting is at 7.30pm on Thursday 9th November in the Chestnut Tree to discuss the Christmas Fayre - everyone is welcome. Donations of toys, books and teddy bears are now being accepted - we would be grateful if these could be dropped off at the Star Building. Non uniform day is Friday 24th November and we are asking for raffle donations, gift items, chocolate, etc. Anyone wanting to help set up or manage a stall on the day of the fayre (8th December) please leave your details on reception for the PTA to contact you. Key Dates for Autumn Term These dates have been placed in the school calendar, every attempt will be made to keep rigidly to these dates and they will only be changed due to an unavoidable occurrence in school. Any additional information required for these events will be sent to parents and carers closer to the time.
