A fabulous idea for reusing those 'Lush' product containers, turn them into a plant pot! This looks lovelyl and thank you Angharad Lowri for the great idea! You can also exchange five of these pots and gret a free face mask! Another idea. We love the plant pot !

Some more suggestions for reducing plastic use have come in,along with a few of our own ideas! Eat your ice cream from a cone, not a tub with a plastic spoon! (fabulous)! Chewing gum contains a type of plastic (grim)!! There are exceptions as in natural gum which is made from chicle, the sap of the sapodilla tree, but most contain a synthetic substance called polyisobutalene...sounds nasty! (also used in the manufacture of inner tubes)!! Ready made sandwich fillings in little plastic pots? Things like egg mayonnaise?...so easy, much cheaper and nicer to make your own. Give your pet toys made from natural rubber, rope or canvas. Several companies make toys from recycled materials, such as Cycle Dog,which make balls from recycled bike tyres,so your canine friend can help the cause too! Wooden hairbrushes, instead of the usual plastic. One we love is grown your own herbs! So much cheaper than those little plastic packets too! Keep the hints and tips coming for us to pass on and take on board! Pop the ideas below this post!

Seems as we are trying to cut back on the use of one use plastic and making an effort to reuse, reduce and recycle, we have television programmes being aired at peak time endorsing wet wipes and cotton buds for cleaning! (Save Money Good Health ITV ). There is the option to buy biodegradable but what is wrong with using a reusable cloth? Probably because the giant companies would prefer us to buy rather than reuse as it is better for profit? Also, we find at the moment biodegradable items such as cotton buds are far more expensive too. We managed to clean without them for a very long time and although was won over by their convenience, in particular for children's clean ups, we realised the error of our ways and switched to flannels and reusable cloths a few years ago. One thing we have noticed by ditching shower gel and the plastic bottles and many others say they have experienced the same and that is that bar soap lasts far far longer and does not take up the space in the bathroom either! (those empties folk forget to dispose of...maybe thats us and ours)! On the kitchen front kitchen roll is another product that we are eliminating. Again, lots of chemicals and water needed to trn trees into paper products, all for what? Incidentally kitchen roll was something we cannot remember having at our home back in the day? It was reusable cloths, every time. Kitchen equipment, bowls, chopping boards etc are so much nicer when constructed from natural materials too, ceramics, stone and glass for instance. Although we love our electric gadgets, we are cutting back on their use and mixing things by hand more and therefore cutting down on energy too. All little things that hopefully collectively shall make a big difference over time. We are so used to convenience and doing things in double quick time. Time for a change. On the food front, there is even a movement called 'The Slow Food Movement' which promotes the use of local food and traditional cooking, as oppose to fast food. Sounds good, although we do resort to fast food on times! Although our version of fast food back in those circa seventies was something like beans on toast, anything on toast... or simply....toast!! Maybe takeaways should accept our own containers too?! Something to think about or request! Would eliminate another lot of plastic! Scouring pads are often made from plastic too, however there are eco friendly options and there is a company called Loofco that stock them. Hopefully the cost of these items shall come down once demand increases as cost is always an issue for us when we like (and need) to save the pennies! We are trying to cook from scratch more, it is always so much nicer , buying fruit and vegetables loosely, withoiut packaging where possible and by cooking things ourselves and not resorting to ready prepared meals, another plastic carton is eliminated! Tastier too even the simplest thing, so a win win situation! Its an ongoing project! A learning curve and changing of old habits that we formed in the name of convenience. The aromas in the kitchen is well worth it too. Who does not remember Sundays when it seemed everyone had their pots of simmering vegetables on the stove, the lovely smell of the mint being chopped, always from the garden at our home, for the finale of the week, the Sunday (after chapel in our case) roast! Good Times....Simpler Times....lets bring them back!!
