MIWUSA HUMAN RIGHTS ADDRESS-2017 Tomorrow marks 57 years since the Sharpeville Massacre when 69 black anti -apartheid protestors were gunned down by police. Migrant workers union of South Africa - MIWUSA tomorrow will be commemorating Human Rights day. in various places. We will be participating in the GUKURAHUNDI MARCH organized by Lenyoka in remembrance of the Gukurahundi victims and also to expose those behind Gukurahundi atrocities and demand justice to all those that committed this heinous act.Yes we can try and ignore the Gukurahundi issue for as long as we want, but someone has to come out and talk about it. Someone has to be held accountable for the atrocities which killed more than 20 000 of our brothers, mothers, sisters and fathers. It is therefore important to show support by joining the masses on the march that will start at 11am at Beria Park in Johannesburg tommorow the 21st of March MIWUSA is aware and worried that in today's day & age some employers still subject migrants to cheap labour. We would like to warn all employers still engaging in unfair labour practices on migrants or any workers in general that we will descend on them like a harmer in a tree. We therefore encourage employers to observe labour laws and treat workers equally and accordingly. The way some migrants are treated in this land is deeply saddening. It's senseless morally and scientifically to call other Africans "foreigners" or "makwerekwere" mistreating a fellow human being because of where they come from is equally disgusting because in actual fact as MIWUSA we believe none of us is pure any tribe, anthropology studies of this continent evidence a logical genesis of intra-continental migration.and therefore, we are either all people of the soil, Africans, or we are all foreigners....It's impossible for any African to claim that their lineage is not traceable to another part of the continent different to the one they now call "home" Remember there was a time when the media was buzzing on Penny Sparrow remarks of calling fellow Africans 'black monkeys'.....that hit hard.Calling other human races monkeys or other inappropriate names will never be OK and is disrespectful just as much as neglecting/mistreating a fellow human being because they are from another country....that is pure evil. With that we say NO TO XENOPHOBIA Therefore Our Secretary General Mandla Masuku and deputy General Secretary Sindiso Moyo will spend their time in Vereeniging with migrant workers from SouthAfrican Steel Mill Company. The company has been ill treating migrant workers, subjecting them to poor working conditions and paying them low wages. As our way of commemorating Human rights day we will continue to implore the company to improve working conditions of workers and urge them to treat all workers equally so as to promote social cohesion. We therefore encourage employers to observe labour laws and treat workers equally and accordingly DOCUMENTATION MIWUSA is still much concerned that Home affairs system continue to render many migrants undocumented. We have received so many cases of assylum seekers being unfairly treated when there are going to renew their papers. Some are alleged to have been deported without warning or notice, this practice we feel is unacceptable as some victims would have left children or even their families unattended. We feel by doing such human rights of migrants are being trampled upon.We urge all those that experienced such kind of treatment to come forward with their cases to the union. However we remain optimistic that home affairs will address the situation and also improve the entire immigration rules. ZIMBABWE SPECIAL PERMITS Miwusa is aware that there is lot of anxiousness among the ZSP applicants about the uncertainty on their future after the expiry of their documents end of 2017. However we urge all ZSP holders not to panic, remain calm till formal communication is done on their fate.MIWUSA remains optimistic that there will be alternative for all applicants to continue with their work in SA. We urge ZSP holders not to act in desperation by engaging back doors to further regulate themselves. We are also aware of planned activities by other groups to deliberate about the plight of ZSP holders. We are not against people expressing themselves,we believe in freedom of speech and association but we believe that can be done lawfully MIWUSA continues to call migrant workers to join them for better protection.
