ROBIN COLVILL ~ (Piano) WILL INTRODUCE AND PERFORM WONDERFUL PIANO MUSIC BY PACHELBEL, PAGANINI, BEETHOVEN, CHOPIN, GRIEG AND OTHERS! Robin Colvill Chamber and Konzert Diplom, Salzburg Mozarteum L.R.A.M. A.R.C.M. D.R.S.A.M. B.Ed Steinway Artist Robin Colvill is one of the busiest and most popular pianists performing in Britain and Europe today. What makes Colvill’s career markedly different from other concert pianists is his creative and imaginative programming and the diversity of venues where he performs. Solo concert tours abroad have included performances in the 3000-seater Havana Opera House (Cuba), the Heraklion Festival (Crete), Tenerife and Corfu Festivals, Schloss Leopoldskron, Residenz and Festung Castle (Salzburg), Valldemosa (Majorca), the Manoel Theatre (Malta), the Governor’s Residence (Gibraltar), Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del agua Caves (Lanzarote) and in the Concert Halls of Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados. Music Education: Colvill began his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and continued in Italy at the Accademica Chigiana, Siena. He subsequently won a three-year scholarship to the Salzburg Mozarteum to study with the renowned teacher, Professor Hans Leygraf, and there he became one of the first British musicians to gain both the Chamber and coveted Konzert Diploma. Following exceptionally well-received debuts in both Salzburg and Vienna, he was immediately appointed Guest Professor of Piano Studies at the Carl Orff Institute in Salzburg and began his career in solo and chamber music performance. UK Major Venues: At home he has performed at major festivals, including Arundel, Aldeburgh, Bath, Brighton, Newbury, Lichfield and the City of London. He has performed for members of the Royal Family and a celebrity audience at Highclere Castle, given numerous recitals for the National Trust and in the major concert venues of London, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Rooms, and St. John’s Smith Square. Elsewhere there have been concerts in The Merchant’s House Glasgow, Culzean Castle in Scotland, Winchester and Chichester cathedrals, The Athenaeum Bury St. Edmunds, The Brewhouse Theatre Taunton, Somerset House London and in educational venues such as the famous Menuhin and Chethams Music Schools and Warwick, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Queens, and Liverpool Universities. Music Collaborations: Colvill has worked in the UK and abroad with eminent solo musicians such as Nigel Kennedy Jacqueline du Pre, Pinchas Zuckerman and Lynn Harrell. He has also partnered the celebrated French violinist, Isabelle Flory on many tours of Britain and Europe and has been a popular guest artist with the Paris Arpeggione Quartet, (both in the UK and Paris and French towns) the Salzburg String Sextet, and the Salzburg Residenz Solisten. In Britain he has also appeared with the highly acclaimed Maginni, Alberni and Coull string quartets and Principals of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He was a founder member of the Brahms Trio of London and they gave concerts in the UK and at the Salzburg Festung. Since 2007 he has also performed regularly with the great British baritone, John Morgan. Media Coverage: Interest in Robin’s absorbing concert programmes has led to extensive media coverage, including articles in national and international newspapers and in Classic FM and Classical Music magazines. One particularly successful and unique project was the amazing re-enactment of the Liszt Grand Tours of 1840/41, when Robin and his wife Kim, as narrator, performed in all the 73 different towns and cities in England, Ireland and Scotland that had played host to Liszt in 1840/41. This was acknowledged by the Liszt society and others as an ‘unsurpassed feat!’ For this amazing tour they had the patronage of the Hungarian Ambassador, and after their London recital the Ambassador hosted an after-concert party at the Hungarian Embassy. Another highly successful project was a ten-County tour with his programme “The Life & Times of Edvard Grieg” featuring British mezzo soprano, Susan Legg. This was supported by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. 2017: Colvill continues to enjoy a busy and fulfilling career, with concerts in the UK and Europe. As a soloist he is particularly in demand in Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Austria and returns each year with his innovative concert programmes. Robin is also a member of the Maestro Trio and they have recently given concerts in the UK, Norway and Denmark. A continuing feature in Robin’s annual diary are Classical Recitals as the Headline Classical Artist on the luxury cruise liners for Cunard and P&O, which he enjoys enormously. Reviews: “in Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto Robin Colvill’s stupendous touch allowed him to explore every facet of this masterpiece – a triumphant success” Salzburger Tagblatt “Robin Colvill is a virtuoso who rises to the challenges of any technical difficulty. His stance at the piano is dignified and puts him in complete control of the keyboard without the need of any unnecessary movement… a beautiful flexible cantabile style of playing and sensitivity … Colvill’s impressive range of dynamics and pianistic styles…” The Sunday Times Robin Colvill is a pianist of high quality and integrity, who has an obvious affinity with the music of the Romantic period. He gives it the respect it deserves and never allows it to sound hackneyed. He plays with the utmost delicacy, yet has an authoritative strength when it is required. The Hereford Times “… his fingers literally rippled over the keys like the ripples of the waves, while his audience sat spellbound, marvelling at his performance. The whole evening was a unique blend of familiar and well-loved melodies and breathtaking artistry at the piano...” Strathearn Arts Guild, Crieff
