ARSO Essay Competition is an annual continental competition on standardisation in Africa. The ARSO Essay Competition is aimed at creating awareness on the benefits of standards among youths in Africa and to involve the youths in standards development process. The topics chosen for the competition is meant to assess the understanding of participants on how standards can lead to sustainable development in Africa.

4th ARSO ESSAY COMPETITION Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) invites interested students in Nigerian institutions of higher learning (universities, polytechnics and Colleges of education) to participate in the 4th African Organisation for Standardization Essay Competition (4th ARSO Essay Competition). The 4th ARSO Essay Competition is the 2017 edition of the essay writing competition organized by SON and ARSO at the national and regional/continental levels respectively. The competition is designed to increase awareness on standardization among African youths below the age of 35 years. The themes of the essay are chosen yearly to highlight the roles of standards towards the realization of the African Union development agenda. The theme of the 4th ARSO Essay Competition has been chosen to reflect the AU declaration of the year 2016 as the “Africa Year of Human Rights with particular focus on the Rights of Women”. Interested students are therefore expected to write an essay of not more than 1200 words with the theme: “Role of standardisation in facilitating human rights with particular focus on the rights of women” Winners of the essay competition at the various levels are entitled to the following prizes; National Level: 1st Position – N100,000.00 2nd Position – N70,000.00 3rd Position – N50,000.00 Regional Level: 1st Position – USD 500 2nd Position – USD 300 3rd Position – USD 200 Continental Level: 1st Position – (male and female) each USD 1000 2nd Position – USD 800 3rd Position – USD 500 In addition the winners at the continental level will be given a trip and accommodation to the 2017 ARSO General Assembly.
