Individual and group music therapy sessions available for children and adults. Her experience includes working with both children and adults with: mental health difficulties, neurological conditions, intellectual disability and ASD.

Music Therapy is an evidenced-based health profession. It is the planned and intentional use of creative music-making to address specific clinical goals. It is a therapeutic treatment, which uses music as the primary means of interaction.

Music therapy is different from music education and entertainment as it focuses on health, functioning and wellbeing. The goal of a music therapist is not to teach children to sing or play an instrument, but rather to communicate through music-making and a shared musical experience. In order to support them and facilitate positive changes in their behavior and well-being.

Where do sessions take place?

Oakview Village Childcare Tralee, Co. Kerry, in conjunction with the Early Years Support Centre. Limited spaces available from September onwards.

A specific music therapy camp for children with special needs & their siblings! What an amazing idea & so needed! "We want typically-developing siblings to have the normalcy of seeing other families with children with special needs -- like, 'Oh, other families look like our family,'" Moilanen said. https://www.facebook.com/BritishAssocMusicTherapy/posts/1440912975986705

How is what you do "Therapy" though? A question I get at times - "Where the therapy happens is actually in the creation of the music. It’s in that relationship between the therapist and the patient, it is drawing out that masterpiece that exists within the child, actually in the act of making music.” https://www.facebook.com/AMTAInc/posts/1490584334333187

Good morning all! I have some remaining slots available for individual music therapy sessions on Fridays at the Early Years Support Centre in Oakview Village Childcare Tralee. I work with both children and teens with additional needs. The aims of music therapy are primarily non-musical and are determined by the needs of each individual. Typically, they may include: • Increasing self-esteem and confidence. • Increasing communication, interaction and expression. • Facilitating free expression of emotions. • Developing social skills such as listening, sharing and turn-taking. • Developing awareness of self and others. • Developing co-ordination and motor control. • Building trust and meaningful relationships. Why I love my work: "I can’t cure the children I work with of their autism, or reverse their congenital condition or learning disability. Not even drugs can do that. But I can do something drugs can’t do, which is help them communicate and, in turn, support their quality of life, relationships with their families and their experience and understanding of the world around them." https://www.facebook.com/tommy.hayes.92/posts/1434355023290511
