You may have seen this earlier in the week but it really does go to show the damage fizzy drinks or anything high in sugar can have on our teeth. Sugar can be addictive so as always we recommend moderation of your sugar intake.

Habits You May Have that are Yellowing Your Teeth 1 Overusing Mouthwash especially those that are too acidic If your mouthwash is too acidic and you are using it too frequently you could be destroying your tooth enamel. Instead, brush your teeth more frequently and only use mouthwash once a day. 2 Eating fruits & vegetables that are high in acid Food high in acid can also cause damage to the enamel of your teeth. Example would be citrus fruits, pineapples, tomatoes, vinegar based salad dressings. Try to sip water after eating acid based food and drinks. 3 Coffee, Tea, Cordials, Red Wine Enamel is porous and when you drink tea/coffee etc regularly daily, stains from these drinks can settle as the enamel of your teeth is porous and so if your teeth are not rinsed and brushed away the teeth slowly begin to yellow. 4 Smoking The chemicals in tobacco stain your teeth because they cling to the enamel, apart from that tobacco is also associated with gum disease, tooth decay and dry mouth. 5 Being over enthusiastic with brushing your teeth We’re all for regular brushing of your teeth, but sometimes too much pressure/speed especially if toothpaste contains abrasive agents can in fact wear away the thin enamel layer exposing the dentin layer. The using of an electric toothbrush should help control the pressure/speed at which you brush your teeth. If your teeth are already yellowing, check with your dentist for professional whitening options, as well as advice about changing your habits.
