Milk recording results are under used and when interpreted correctly can reduce somatic cell count (SCC) in your herd. Using the milk recording results a high cell count cow can be targeted with the CMT (Californian Mastitis Test) to identify which quarter is infected with mastitis. The CMT is a simple test that can be carried out in the milking parlour using basic but effective equipment. Once the high cell count quarter is identified a clean sample can then be taken and sent for bacterial culture and testing to identify the strain of mastitis causing bacteria present in the quarter. Appropriate antibiotic treatment which is sensitive to the bacteria present can then be recommended by your vet. Less time wasted treating blind, less wasted antibiotics, less dumped milk and ultimately a lower cell count in your herd. CMT is an essential piece of kit to have in your milking parlour and will save you time and money. CMT kits now in stock. #Cellcheck
