The Dublin Dental University Hospital is a centre of excellence in patient care, education and research, which enhance the learning experience of our students and the delivery of care to patients in an integrated and balanced way.  Located in the busy centre of Dublin the Dublin Dental University Hospital is a voluntary hospital providing primary, secondary and tertiary care for patients on a local, regional and national basis.  The Dublin Dental University Hospital is one of three dental education and training institutions in Ireland and provides programmes across the full range of specialties in dentistry.  The School and Hospital’s educational programmes encompass Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Auxiliary and Continuing Education. The Hospital has an active reserach ethos.

RCSEd. / Sirona Dentsply Skills Competition The DDUH held a competition on Friday 8th December which was open to all final year students throughout the UK, Northern Ireland and Ireland. There were 18 heats throughout the UK and Ireland and this was the first time that Dublin participated in the competition. The winner of the Dublin heat was Vignesh Eswara Murthy with Rebecca Ngo awarded second place and Lily Wang in third place. Vignesh will now travel to Edinburgh on 8th March to take place in the Grand Final – good luck Vignesh! The Dublin Dental University Hospital and Dental School would like to congratulate the following postgraduate students who received their Awards on Friday 8th December 2017 from Chancellor of the University, Mary Robinson at a ceremony in Latin in the Public Theatre. • PhD Graduation – Dr Caomhin MacGiolla Phadraig. Caoimhin MacGiolla Phadraig defended his thesis in July 2017 and, on Friday 8th December, was awarded PhD by the Chancellor of Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin. The title of his thesis is: Total Tooth Loss and Oral Health Service Use among Older People with Intellectual Disabilities in Ireland. Co-supervised by Professor June Nunn and Professor Mary McCarron, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, together with her Co-PI on the IDS-TILDA project, Professor Philip McCallion. Caomhin has worked with the team who have been involved in all three waves of this intellectual disability supplement to the main TILDA study, ensuring that oral/dental issues are not only included but reported on in policy forming documents arising from the findings of this world - unique study. • Doctorate Students – Dr Fatmah Aljumah (Orthodontics), Dr Saleh Alkadi (Oral Surgery), Dr Äida Ben Cheikh (Orthodontics) • Masters Student – Mr Jimmy Swan, MSc in Microbiology. Well done all!
