DO YOU HAVE LINES YOU’D PERFER NOT TO HAVE? If so, we can help. Botox and dermal fillers provide a safe, non-surgical solution for lines and wrinkles. This treatment is now available at Wellington Quay Dental. What areas can I treat? Movement lines eg, frown, forehead and laughter lines can be treated very successfully with Botox. Dermal fillers work really well on permanent lines eg around the mouth and also to restore fullness to the lips. Is it painful? An anti-wrinkle injectable is administered with a very fine needle, and takes only a few seconds but we will apply a numbing gel to the skin beforehand. Dermal fillers are administered the same way, though take a little longer, depending on the area of the face being treated You will see the full results between 7 – 14 days after your treatment. It takes this time for the product to settle, Is there any downtime? No. You can go back to all regular activities immediately after treatment. You may experience mild swelling and redness however this typically settles after a few hours Are there any risks or side effects? Side effects include possible headaches, bruising and/or pain at the site of injection. There is a risk of drooping of the eyelids and eyebrows but this happens in less than 1% of cases and corrects itself within a few months How long does it last? Each patient responds differently but in general, Botox lasts between 3 and 4 months before the relaxing effect on the muscle wears off. Dermal fillers last for 9-12months depending on the type of filler being used, and the area of the face being treated. Will I look frozen afterwards? No. We study your facial musculature and administer the right amount of product for you, for the most natural and subtle of results. The ‘frozen’ or unnatural appearance you sometimes see on celebrities happens as a result of over-treatment. How much does it cost? Prices vary depending on the number of areas you’d like to have treated. Prices start from €190. There are of course cost savings on the treatment of multiple areas together Ask our reception team about our free consultation.

WISDOM TEETH CAN BE A PAIN! They can start to appear in the mouth from age 18 onwards and sometimes they get stuck because there isn't enough space in the mouth for them. Then food catches in the gum around them leading to infection and pain. Rinsing with warm salt water can be really helpful but sometimes an antibiotic is necessary to get rid of the infection.

BRUXISM - Clenching and grinding the teeth Bruxism can cause a lot of damage to the teeth including shortening, sensitivity, cracked teeth or fillings, gum recession and chipping at the gumline. There can also be joint issues such as clicking locking and pain as well as headaches. Most people are unaware of the problem until it is pointed out by the dentist because it is mainly happening during sleep. Wearing a custom fitted bite guard at night is an easy way to protect the teeth and joints by reducing the clenching force by 60-70%

GREAT NEWS FOR NERVOUS PATIENTS! DENTAL MINDFULNESS WHAT IS DENTAL MINDFULNESS? Mindfulness has been used for many years in dentistry as a way of helping very nervous patients to lower their anxiety during dental visits. Dr Reynolds has trained with the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis in Glasgow and is now offering this service at Wellington Quay Dental. HOW DOES IT WORK? The aim of mindfulness is to help our patient achieve a state of deep relaxation called a trance – this is the same as daydreaming or meditation or being engrossed in music or a book. It’s also like the feeling just before falling asleep but the patient is not asleep at any stage and is fully in control at all times. During the trance, dental anxiety fades into the background instead of being overwhelming. WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE? Being in a trance is a pleasant experience, very relaxed and very safe. You will have your eyes closed but still be aware of where you are, background noise etc. You will not be asked nor will you contemplate doing anything out of the ordinary. After coming out of trance you will feel physically and mentally relaxed. If you wish, you can bring a companion to your appointments WHAT ABOUT AFTER EFFECTS? There are none – once out of trance you are completely back to normal and can carry on with the rest of your day. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The Dental Mindfulness Consultation visit costs €50 – during this visit you will have the opportunity to experience the trance. Subsequent Dental Mindfulness during a dental appointment costs €25

SO, WHAT DOES A DENTAL CAVITY LOOK LIKE? For many people, the first sign of a cavity is pain. In the early stages it is difficult to see a cavity in your own mouth, so visiting the dentist regularly is the best way to avoid larger cavities and pain.

5 FACTS ABOUT TEETH WHITENING When you are considering teeth whitening you may have some questions and concerns. Hopefully these facts will be reassuring. 1.Whitening with the dentist does not damage your enamel - the only side effect for most people is some temporary sensitivity . 2.The best result is achieved if dental cleaning is carried out prior to whitening. 3.Its not suitable for everyone - it is not recommended for children under 18 or during pregnancy 4.We advise 6 monthly whitening top-ups to maintain the improvement you have achieved 5.The time frame for whitening varies - usually 2-4 weeks is sufficient but occasionally it can take longer
