Interested in Directing for Film? DIRECTING ACTORS is our newest course at ActorsVision, and our only course created for current and future film makers with a passion for Directing. "Actors are not technical pieces of equipment. They are living beings that need to be directed through a language that fuels and energises their senses, utilising the imagination as the gateway. The Theatrical Motion class will present an short play this weekend, Sat 10th & Sun 11th June, at 8pm in Studio One. There are currently only 5 tickets remaining for each performance. To book email contact@actorsvision.com THE SERPENT by Nelson Rodrigues, directed by Nina Thereza Ní Mendes, with Michael Browne, Lisa Dwyer, Ciara Coughlan, Laura Mullane & Patryk Pozlotka. The play by Nelson Rodrigues shows the ironic and satirical look of this genius playwright under a country and a society in vertiginous transformation. In the 17 plays he wrote throughout his career, he inaugurated and consolidated modernism in the Brazilian theatre. He was a Brazilian journalist and writer. A great name in Brazilian literature, it was especially consecrated through its tales and plays. Successful columnist in his time, also stood out in the sports chronicles, serials and romances, these last, under pseudonyms of Myrna and Suzana Flag. He was the most revolutionary character of the Brazilian theater, opening the doors to the modern dramaturgy in the country. The mythical tradition of Western thought, the daily hypocrisy of our cultural and financial elite, the tragic trajectory of modernity, the hallucinatory psychology that deepens us to the limit and of course the body, sex, morality, passion and ties Family: all this is part of the universe of Nelson Rodrigues. The Serpent, the last piece written by the author, could not fail to address all these themes. Or could it? The Serpent, written in 1978, tells the story of Guida and Lígia, two sisters who live under the same roof with their respective husbands, Paulo and Décio. Lígia, completely dissatisfied with her marriage and still a virgin after a year of marriage, decides to separate from Décio. Suffered, depressed, feeling devalued as a woman, she lives chaos in her life. At this moment, Guida offers her husband, Paul, for one night, so that the sister can have a first contact with a man and be able to experience true pleasure. However, after that night, nothing will be as before: Guida will be jealous and will spy on her sister and husband in every corner. Lígia and Paulo are going to promote furtive meetings and the sounds of that night in the next room will never fail to cross the minds of any of the characters who will gradually face an indissoluble tragedy.
