PhysioYoga Cork I am an experienced Physiotherapist trained in Germany with a Yoga teacher qualification from Ireland.

PhysioYoga Cork provides Hatha yoga classes with a large focus on healthy joint alignment and balancing muscle strength with flexibility.

Good posture and healthy movement patterns are promoted to counteract the negative effects of prolonged immobility from sitting all day or repetitive physical work tasks. Breathing and relaxation techniques are also part of the PhysioYoga classes to help balance the nervous system, train the core and breathing muscles and allow the body to perform at its best.

No matter if you are a weekend warrior, want to improve your sports performance, counteract a sedentary job or a busy lifestyle, improve your posture or your ability to relax, PhysioYoga class will give you the flexibility, strength and relaxation you need to perform great and stay pain and injury free.

PhysioYoga classes are limited to a small group to allow me to work more individually with you and keep classes safe and personal.

All yoga equipment are provided including mats, blocks and straps etc, you just have to bring yourself.

Strength training is good for you! Yes, also for elderly people with osteoarthritis and degenerative spines... Just gradually increasing the load and your body will adapt. Your bones and muscles will be stronger, which will probably reduce the risk of falling and have less disabilities in your daily life. My Granny can lift a full crate of beer. How much can you lift?

Releasing or avoiding too much stress to keep the body healthy is important. But like everything, there needs to be balance. The body needs stress / a stimulus to a certain level. Staying in your comfort zone won't strengthen your muscles and neither will it allow your mind to coop with new challenges. How to find the necessary balance? This article describes it very well!

Is good posture a myth and waste of time? This is what science says: It doesn't matter what posture you have - as long as you move & stretch frequently, and change your posture if your muscles are getting tight. Sitting all day with great posture in an expensive ergonomic chair but not moving at all will still give you pain eventually. Why good posture is still not a waste of time: Research also showed that upright posture can improve your mood and well being. It can give you a feeling of confidence and strength. Remember the last time you tried to chat somebody up or asked your boss for a pay rise? You wouldn't do this slouched like a potato, right?! Try it: straighten your back & lift your chest, imagine you are growing a little taller. But keep shoulders and low back relaxed. Straight posture needs to feel tall AND comfortable, you want to be able to maintain it - at least until you make it to the second round of drinks with your new flirt ;).

Just a gentle reminder to all of you affected by issues/injuries at the moment: don't get frustrated if things don't go as smooth as planned. Full recovery is complex and needs time. It might take longer for some people than for others, but you will get there eventually. A realistic outlook on recovery time avoids disappointment and actually aids your recovery! If you are unsure about expected recovery times, ask your GP or therapist.

Something I educate my young athlete clients about on a regular base: if you want to improve sports performance and stay injury free, your sleep is more important than you think! And adults, you are never too old for this advise also;) During your sleep your body is recovering from the day, from illness or injury. It can help reduce chronic pain and mood issues, and supports healthy body functions. Do you get your recommended 6-8 hours per night?
