Music Prints, an exhibition by Craig Carry

Music Prints is a solo exhibition by Craig Carry, at Cork Printmakers’ Print Showroom, which will be on display from 9th – 31st March 2017. It features a series of limited edition hand-pulled screen-prints, resulting from both commission and personal-based work. The work unites Craig’s professional background in graphic design and a lifelong passion for music. In 2012, he set up the music website Fractured Air (www.fracturedair.com) with his twin brother Mark, which has to-date featured regular contributions from an array of artists, including: Nils Frahm, Julia Kent, Hauschka and Cillian Murphy. In fact, it was the Cork-born actor Murphy who had initially encouraged the idea of establishing a music website to begin with. Record labels such as Iceland’s Bedroom Community, London’s Erased Tapes Records and Norway’s Smalltown Supersound have also been regularly featured on the site, which has also been featured at various platforms in the past including: the award winning Paris-based music website La Blogothèque; Galway International Arts Festival and IMMA Rising, Dublin. Craig ’s artwork has been used for many musicians in the independent music scene – both nationally and internationally – including Icelandic group Amiina; This Is How We Fly; Irish composers Seán Mac Erlaine and Clang Sayne – while an ongoing collaboration with iconic West Cork-based music venue Connolly’s Of Leap has been formed, since the venue’s recent reopening. Other recent commissions include; cover artwork for the iconic 'American Roots' music magazine 'No Depression’s' summer 2017 and a series of new prints for 'Stargaze' (de Ridder’s modern classical music collective), German conductor André de Ridder, at the Volksbühne in Berlin. These prints are often created with the use of recurring motifs, through visual puns in limited colour palettes, while a combination of digital and hand-crafted artwork forms the basis of the imagery. Craig Carry is a full-time member of Cork Printmakers and is based in Cork. More information available at http://craigcarry.net/ Cork Printmakers’ Opening hours: Monday – Friday, 9.30am – 5.30pm, closed for lunch from 1 – 2pm.
