Visions School of Art will begin our next round of the course 'Introduction to Life Drawing' on 6th of June. For more on this and other art courses, workshops and events for adults in Cork in May, June and July, visit www.artclass.ie/cork-city-adult-art-classes and scroll down to see the upcoming schedule. Life Drawing is one of the fundamental skills that artists need to practice and gain an understanding of – learning and practicing drawing the figure is a strong foundation upon which a solid artistic development can blossom. The course covers the fundamental skills (making fluent line, shading, capturing shapes, etc.) and concepts (proportion, angling, measuring, etc.) that every artist needs for approaching drawing the figure; it is therefore completely suited to beginners. 'Introduction to Life Drawing' is taught by Andrew Carroll BA MA Visual Arts Practice - Andrew has practiced and trained in Life Drawing since the age of 16, when he attended the Burren College of Art for a course on the same subject. He has taught in various art-educational roles, among them at Trinity Arts Workshop (Trinity College) and the City of Dublin Education and Trainting Board. Andrew has attended weekly Life Drawing sessions at the RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy) and taken part in the Crawford School of Art Life Drawing Marathon. 'Introduction to Life Drawing' is an eight-week course, and it is EUR120, which breaks down to EUR15 per 2-hour lesson. It is held at our studio-classroom at Granary House on Rutland Street in Cork city centre. Please contact Andrew at: and.carroll@gmail.com for further information, or to book.

On the week beginning 17th of April, Visions School of Art will begin its next round of evening adult art courses in Cork (see www.artclass.ie/cork-city-adult-art-classes for a list of all adult art courses, workshops and events provided). We provide a twelve-week painting course for adult beginners, as well as long and short-pose Life Drawing practice sessions, and a 12-week course based on 'The Artist's Way' (the internationally-renowned book on creative unblocking by Julia Cameron) on Thursday evenings. We run our painting course in blocks of 12 weeks because this period of time affords students the opportunity to complete a painting and move on to the next, which is the minimum you will need to see development and find encouragement from discernible improvement. For beginners, a sustained engagement with one's craft is where learning and improvement can be observed in their own work. Saturday Workshops offered included monthly 'Painting Days' for painting-beginners, a quarterly workshop called "Introduction to Painting From Your Core" (introducing students to developing personal expression in paint, and working from their personal imaginations, rather than from observed images). All this, as well as many other Saturday classes, on various aspects of visual art. Courses are EUR180 for twelve 2-hour classes (this breaks down to EUR15 per class). Classes take place on week nights, 7pm-9pm. All Visions classes are instructed by Andrew Carroll BA MA Visual Art - Andrew has exhibited paintings at the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Summer Exhibition (amongst other shows), on more than one occasion. He also holds a Level 8 qualification in Group Arts Facilitation. Classes are taught in a clear and easy-to-follow manner, are demonstration-led, and Andrew teaches with a learner-centered philosophy, meaning that he takes each student from where they are at - in terms of experience and capability - and moves them on step-by-step from there. Our studio-classroom is located on Rutland St, a well-lit row just off of South Terrace, Cork. There is free parking on the streets around our studio-classroom after 6:30pm, just in time for the beginning of classes at 7pm. I'm donating a piece of art to this. If you would be interested in buying or taking books of tickets for the event, please comment below. This is not a political event - funds go to Medecins Sans Frontieres to help with their work in Syria. Thank you in advance, and thank you to Tom Campbell for organising this initiative!
