As you know, I have always been a bit of a yoga purist, so I have rarely made any comment about it's adaptation by commercial organisations. However, I read an eloquent and compassionate response to this, this morning and thought I would share it with you. "People are attracted to the beautiful simplicity of yoga. When you enter a yoga class you leave the stress-filled manic world behind. Some come for the physical side, some for the meditational side, and many have found the strength to deal with their problems, physical, emotional and psychological. This simplicity is constantly under threat from a bombardment of products from the latest leggings to detox diets. And now yet another product has arrived on the yoga scene: beer yoga. To say that drinking beer while doing yoga ‘makes it less intimidating’ as one teacher stated, questions that teachers understanding of yoga. But the main issue," is that many students come to yoga to help with addictions, including alcohol. Yoga is seen as a means to freedom, a means to find a deeper meaning to life. Adding alcohol to yoga blurs this boundary and instead of taking us inside, we are back endlessly chasing the myth of being able to buy happiness." https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/beer-yoga-now-for-the-falling-down-position-75php860m

What a beautiful spring morning. Perfect weather for a few salutations in the garden. One plant that didn't fall victim to the snow is the nettle. We decided to make some sattvic soup with ours. If you're also fighting this ferocious iron, antioxidant and vitamin rich weed, here's the recipe to keep your strength up .Multiply it up to as many servings you like or as much stings as you can dodge. Namaste. Nettle soup 125g nettles 1 tbls olive oil 1/4 onion 1 tables brown rice 1/4 ltr vegetable stock pinch of salt and pepper 1 Blanch the nettles in boil water for 2 mins to remove stings. 2 Rinse in ice water, drain and remove leaves from stalks. 3 Chop coarsely. 4 Dice the onion and salt in olive oil for about 4/mins. 5 Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to the boil. 6 Reduce to a simmer and cook for about 20 mins until rice is tender. 7 Blend until smooth. 8 Eat mindfully with a smug look on your face.
