Dhamma Yatra along the footsteps of the Buddha: Last chance before our pilgrimage start on Feb 28. Two places are left. Now is still the chance to get everything arranged and to be inspired by e.g. Kapilvastu, Nepal, where Siddhartha grew up. Jetavan park of Anathapindika, where the Buddha spent more time than any other place. Rajgiri, where the first monastic settlement, as well as first Buddhist council took place. Bodhgaya, the still most powerful place to get in touch with deep meditation. Maha Kala Cave, where the Bodhisattva spent his last years, before he reached the highest goal. Ramgram Stupa (Nepal), the only one out of the eight relic-stupas, which was never opened.

Ramgram Stupa in Nepal. One of the stupas (mound like structure containing remains or relics) which is containing the eighth portion of the relics of the Buddha, and the only one of these eight which was not opened by the emperor Ashoka (who was scared away by a powerful Naga) or anyone else.

Mt. Kailash/Tibet - Meditation tour on the Top of the World An extraordinary trip for meditators with a composition of culture, adventure, pilgrimage and meditation (25 days) It's considered to be the centre of our cosmos, it is the source of four major rivers in Asia and a popular destination for countless pilgrims of different religions. We approach it from the Jokhang in Lhasa, where the most important statue of Buddha Shakyamuni is kept. On the "Friendship Highway" we head west, passing the picturesque Scorpion Lake, crossing two 5.000 meter high passes by road and from Pang La enjoy the breath taking view of six (!) out of the fourteen 8.000 meter mountains on our planet! We drive right into the Himalayas to the stunning and popular North Face of Mount Everest. Over there we stay in a fixed tented camp and meditate in the cave of the Indian master Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). On the banks of lake Peiku Tso we set our first own camp guarded by the Shishapangma (8.013m) in the background. Vast plains, huge sand dunes and the white peaks of the Indian Himalayas accompany us further west. Already from the shores of Manasarovar Lake we see mount Kailash, Tibetans call him "Kang Rinpoche" which means precious snow jewel. Along the Sutlej river we travel through the Garuda Valley and explore the remains of the former kingdoms Shangshung and Guge. In the latter, we spend two nights and make use of that remote location for a one day Vipassana course and to prepare our minds for the final highlight on that incredible journey. We start the 51 kilometre pilgrimage kora around the sacred Kailash. Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Bon - followers of four religions worship him as a link between humans and the cosmos. There are countless other mountains in the Himalayas, which rise higher, but none of them can compete with the Kailash regarding shape and surrounding places. He builds the centre of an enormous natural mandala that includes four major rivers - Brahmaputra, Karnali, Sutlej and Indus - which flow in the four cardinal directions and provide water for millions of people. Already on the first day of trekking we reach the northern aspect of mount Kailash, enjoy the sunset and on next day morning the sunrise. At Shiva Tsal pilgrims symbolically reach "Bardo", which is the intermediate state between death and a new life. Now Yama will be judging about their karma and on the Dolma La (5.636m) decide about their future life. The goddess Dolma will forgive previous sins which makes it easier to finish the kora around "Kang Rinpoche". We welcome you to join that fantastic meditation tour. It covers various cultural and natural highlights on the Tibetan plateau and is designed especially for Vipassana meditators! The main focus, and thus a central aspect of this trip, will be devoted to meditation. Daily we offer at least two hours at well chosen places, either inside or outside in the nature. Experienced pilgrimage guide Jörn Materne and Tibet expert Christian Hertel have put all their passion and profession in designing that wonderful tour. You will enjoy a carefully selected itinerary and a meditation friendly travel style. Both contribute to the truly unique character of this journey. Tour highlights: 3 days Kailash kora with its "high"light the Dölma La (5.636m) Powerful meditation spots at Manasarovar and Peiku Tso 2 nights in the ancient kingdoms of Guge and Shangshung Lhasa: sacret Jokhang temple, Potala Palace, hermitage caves of Drak Yerpa Via scorpion lake Yamdrok Tso and Gyantse Kumbum to Shigatse Various short hikes for a better acclimatisation Helpful advice from our guides regarding nutrition, clothing and moving in high altitute Mount Everest North Face Basecamp (5.150m) & meditation cave of Guru Rinpoche Panorama view of Kanchenjunga (8.586m), Makalu (8.463m), Lhotse (8.516m), Everest (8.848m), Cho Oyu (8.201m) & Shishapangma (8.013m) Off the beaten track: Sakya monastery & Kyhunglung ("Silver Palace of the Garuda") Accommodation in well chosen Tibetan hotels, guesthouses and tents Local Tibetan team: guide/cook, driver, yak men Your tour guides for that Kailash trip: Jörn Materne (tour guide, professional pilgrimage guide & Nepal/India expert) Jörn: "I like to offer an invisible hand to my guests to support their trip, to initiate individual experiences and to let them return full inspiration after enjoying good comfort and a pleasant atmosphere. Travelling in the Himalayas involves very special and intense experiences as one can get in touch with nature in an active way and reach wonderful places for Meditation." Jörn is a professional pilgrimage guide with a great range of useful tools and an incredible knowledge of the Indian sub-continent. Our guests can look forward to those "little" extras. His portfolio of stories will help to understand even difficult topics very easily. Since many years Jörn is guiding pilgrimages in India and Nepal, is practising Vipassana meditation and implements the Dharma (Pali: Dhamma) into all of his tours. 25 years of intense and adventurous travel in 40 different countries will provide all guests on that Kailash tour plenty of extra values. Christian Hertel (founder of MOSKITO Adventures, tour guide in China/Tibet/Indien) “Chris” is an enthusiastic fan of Asia, studied in Hong Kong before and speaks Chinese and a bit of Tibetan language. Since 2003 Chris is exploring Buddhist cultures, e.g. in China, Tibet, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapur, Indonesia, India and Cambodia. He makes great use of all his experience and local contacts and adds a lot of effort to design wonderful trips for our guests. Tibetan culture is meant to be his strongest passion. On various tours in the Himalayas during the last 10 years he enjoyed intense encounters. Especially the warm hearted mentality and the incredibly strong religious believe of the Tibetan people makes him return regularly. In addition to that he climbed Mount Kyizi (6.204m) and has been guiding many trekkings in Tibet. Our guests can look forward to one of the most fascinating tours to Mount Kailash and together with Chris enjoy travelling off the beaten track.
