'the EI land' is a hands-on project, which is offered for the first time in spring 2016. The kick-off ceremony will be on 29/02/2016.  The increasing energy demand, the limited fossil energy sources and the concerns about global warming call for a tremendous change in energy systems. The Center of Competence Power Systems of the Future deals with this problematic in order to find a reliable and sustainable solution.

The project 'theEIland' will tackle one particular aspect of this issue: the challenges of utilizing renewable energies in island-grids. This hands-on project, funded by the TUM Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is being coordinated at the Institute of Renewable and Substainable Energy Systems under the supervision of Prof. Hamacher.

Within this project, the students have an opportunity to work independently or in teams. The participation at 'theEIland' can be acknowledged as a:
-Bachelor's Thesis or Internship (Bachelor EI)
-Master's Thesis or Research Internship (Master EI), or
-Master's Thesis or Research Internship (MSPE).

The participation of students from other faculties is subject to prior approval by the project coordinators.

The communication during the project will be in English.

An excerpt from an article in the Guardian: "We used to rely on the breeze to predict the weather, now we use mobiles. [...] When we find signal we use a pin code, *130*1#, and download the most up-to-date forecast. It costs $0.20 a session. Knowledge about the weather has never been more important. Last year we experienced terrible heatwaves that completely dried out the underground water table. We also need to be prepared for the cold, which can ruin crops too." Moddie Msebele, 70, Matabeleland, Zimbabwe It is for farmers like Moddie that we are developing a charging station acting as a weather station at the same time. Interested? Apply now!

We presented the project "the EI land" in front of an international board of experts during the evaluation of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Science on April 26, and they were impressed by the variety and the quality of the projects which were offered by the different chairs. This has motivated us even more to work harder in order to prepare the next project phase, which starts in August.
