Manufacturers are getting very good at making very good looking terrible bikes. Here's one. A client brought me this to tune-up recently. She got it at Canadian Tire cheap. She hadn't ridden it much but it was feeling off so she brought it to me. My findings: the backwheel actually cannot be installed onto the frame straight because the rear of the frame was constructed that sloppily. The rims have a dozen little warps in them each. It can be trued for a time but the aluminum of the rims is so low grade I could feel them bend under very little stress. My work on the wheels will undo quickly. Aligning the brake pads was laughable. I could feel the cheapness of the threading in the screw and nut. The pads will move out of alignment soon enough. I could go on. The tune-up cost her more than a regular tune-up because of these difficulties and this bike will not last. So in the end, she didn't get a deal on the bike.

I'll be at The Stop's Farmers' Market at Wychwood Barns tomorrow morn between 9 and 1 tuning up bikes for $30 a pop while you shop and talk to the very people that make the food you eat. Fascinating.
Cops are ticketing cyclists for no bells and wrong ways on one way street. $100 ticket.
