Even though the majority of evacuees from the Cariboo region have left Prince George, the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre is continuing to serve as the primary evacuation centre for those who require group lodging. There are currently 60 evacuees still on site, including those in tents. For the time being, we will remain closed to the public and members to ensure evacuees have a private, secure place in which they can rest and recover during a very trying time. The evacuees are remaining in the city for health reasons, as well as those still under an evacuation order. There isn’t a set date on when the Northern Sport Centre will re-open to the public, but we will keep you posted. Thank you for your patience. Accelerated Sport and Spine Physiotherapy, located at the NSC, is open as they have a separate entrance.

Crews from the City of Prince George, IDL and UNBC University of Northern British Columbia are installing flooring at the field house at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre (NSC) to create space for an additional 460 cots for evacuees affected by the wildfires in the province. Covering a space of 190 x 180 square feet, the work is expected to be completed by 8 a.m. Thursday. This type of co-operation is helping make Prince George's response to this situation very effective. A reminder that the NSC is closed to the public and its members until further notice.

The Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre (NSC) will close to the public and its members as of 1 p.m. today, July 10, 2017, and remain closed until further notice. The facility is being used as group lodging as part of Prince George’s response to wildfires affecting a large portion of the province. The decision to close the facility to the public and members was made to ensure evacuees have a private, secure place in which they can rest and recover during a very trying time. The closure also allows other areas of the facility to be used to support evacuees as the situation unfolds. The NSC will look at providing partial rebates to its membership, depending upon the duration of the closure. The NSC and the University of Northern British Columbia thank its members and the public for their understanding, and conveys gratitude to everyone who is helping support those who have been displaced by this emergency situation.
