Outstanding day on the soccer pitch for our Junior Girls and Boys teams yesterday. Both squads came away with shootout wins over SFDCI and will play for the LCIAA Championships tomorrow. Our Senior Boys squad put up a game effort, but came up on the wrong end of a 3-2 score against CPHS. The Tennis team is in Kingston competing in the EOSSAA Championships today. Go Spartans Go!

Come support SJCHS students who will be performing this Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Perth Tea Room for the Student Coffee House hosted by Stewart Park Festival. The winning performance earns $500 for their school's music program and a chance to perform on stage at the Stewart Park Festival.

Mr. David MacKenzie is the Perth Rotary Club's Educator of the Year Award Recipient. At 11am yesterday the the SJCHS school community gathered in the gym for a Good News Assembly. Special guests, Mr. Frank Larabie and Mr. Louis Gaudreau of the Perth Rotary Club came to announce that Mr. David MacKenzie has been named the Perth Rotary Club's Educator of the Year. Needless to say that the news received unanimous approval from everyone in the gym. Congrats Mr. MacKenzie.You are most worthy recipient of this award. SJCHS is blessed to have you as a member of its community. On Wednesday May 3, SJCHS welcomed a drum group from Alderville First nation a Missisauga/Anishinaabe communtiy near Peterborough. Alderville First Nation is a sister communtiy to Ardoch First Nation in Sharbot Lake. Smoke Trails is well-known throughout Canada and the United States having performed in concerts with Susan Aglugark, Shane Yellowbird, Michelle Wright and Buffy Ste. Marie and they were here with us! What an afternoon! Flag songs, intertribal songs, a jingle dress dance by a most beautiful irl, butterfly dance, traditional women's dance and so much more. All songs and dances were interspersed with historical and cultural explanations. SJCHS studetns were invited to join in a round dance and a snake dance. This visit has no doubt created many good memories(oepned hearts and minds to Anishinaabe culture.) We want to thank all who attended and participated. We say "Gichi Miigwech" to Smoke Trails for coming to St. John.
