A majestic old pine tree stands in our vineyard: Le Vieux Pin. It speaks to the earth, rain and the clean, clear air of the Okanagan. www.levieuxpin.ca Named for the solitary majestic old growth pine of their Oliver estate, Le Vieux Pin sits perched amidst the famed vineyards of the Black Sage Bench: Canada’s sole pocket desert, located in the South of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Since releasing their first vintage in 2005, Le Vieux Pin has captured the essence of traditional French winemaking, along with the bold New World character distinct to the region. Considered by the national wine industry to be a leading Syrah producer, the winery uses low input viticulture and non-interventionist winemaking to make exclusive vintages that carry with them a sense of time and place. These fine wines can be savoured nationwide and internationally, at select culinary hot spots, gastronomical institutions and fine wine merchants.

The pine tree stands alone.

Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette 2015 - Expert wine ratings and wine reviews by WineAlign

"Cuvée Violette is composed of the same intensely floral-aromatic syrah and same scant one per cent roussanne folded in from three locales; Black Sage Bench, Osoyoos Lake District and Golden Mile Bench. Time in barrel (14 months) is consistent with previous incarnations but the number of new oak is down to eight per cent (from 15) in 2015. The floral component is lifted, elevated and prettier than before, more energy abounds from and then bounds off the palate. This is seamless juice with a braised pork belly note perfumed by exotica and even a slight bit of rubbery reduction. Though there is great tang and spice to taste it dissipates and leaves just fruit behind, namely umeboshi plum, followed by a finish of salt brine and a long, fine line. Drink 2018-2022. Tasted May 2017. 92 points" http://www.winealign.com/wines/97844-Le-Vieux-Pin-Syrah-Cuvee-Violette-2015

Serious About Wine? Here's What We're Sure You're Missing.

Check out this article in Forbes on Canadian wine! "...a Syrah from Le Vieux Pin in the South Okanagan that won me over personally with its New World fruit and character corralled by French winemaking tradition and finesse. Tasting it blind, I would have misidentified its origin again and again yet that is exactly the thrill of a wine region that is almost terra incognita for enthusiasts outside Canada." https://www.forbes.com/sites/cathyhuyghe/2017/05/11/serious-about-wine-heres-what-were-sure-youre-missing/#6ffa7fc15f55
