Its that time again.. Tick Season! With the mild weather we have been having recently it is important to know that Ticks can thrive in the environment when temperatures are at or above 4 degrees celsius. This means that even if the temperatures drop below freezing, the ticks will still be out during the day in full force once it reaches 4 degrees again. It is also important to know that although in previous years, these pests were not as big of an issue. Their numbers have been growing exponentially in the last few years. Ticks can carry all sorts of harmful diseases such as Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis. It is important to protect your pets from these potentially deadly diseases. If you know or think your pet has had exposure to a tick there is a test that we can do in our clinic to test if your pet for these diseases. Last year alone between the months of May & October we had 7 dogs test positive for Lyme disease. (That is just our clinic & just the dogs we were able to test!) as well as 1 dog that tested positive for Anaplasmosis. Please contact us for more information on what you can do to protect your pets! We have some very exciting products this year that will be sold in conjunction with Heartworm prevention to help our clients save some money this spring/summer! Attached below are some links with more information on Ticks and the safe use of Tick Prevention Medications; https://www.ovma.org/assets/1/6/Ticks_Lyme_Disease.pdf https://www.avma.org/public/PetCare/Pages/Safe-use-of-flea-and-tick-preventive-products.aspx
