This exhibition of contemporary art highlights significant moments of Haiti’s history: the Taino period, the Spanish conquest, the French colonization and slavery, the revolt of
Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Toussaint Louverture, the sharing of the island, the struggle of Boyer for recognition of the independence, the American occupation (the cacos of Charlemagne
Perralt), the massacre of Haitians in the Dominican Republic, the Duvalier dictatorship, Aristide's presidency, the political instability, the January 2010 earthquake.

The exhibition "Haiti: a skin-deep history" summarizes in an innovative pictorial narration the unique path of the first independent black nation. Composed of twelve large-format photographs, and numerous watercolors and drawings, this exhibition traces a past marked by struggles and quests, raising questions that still remain valid.
