Miners Memorial Weekend is fast approaching! 2018 is a very exciting year for us. It is our 33rd year of honouring the miners and workers who lost their lives and the 100th anniversary of Ginger Goodwin’s death. We have been busy planning this event for 2 years. Now we need your help to bring everything together! Last week Museum staff visited with colleagues and enjoyed behind the scenes tours at the Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Centre and then the Museum at Campbell River. It was inspiring to hear about the projects and programs taking place at a few of our neighbouring institutions. Of course, we could not resist a photo with Mr. Tyee!

United We Sing! In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the shooting death of Albert ‘Ginger’ Goodwin, the Cumberland Museum and Archives invites you to be a part of our ‘Miners Memorial Choir’! Join Choir Director, Wendy Nixon Stothert, and other local residents in song for six weeks of Wednesday evening rehearsals, leading up to an exciting public performance on Saturday, June 23rd at this year’s special Ginger Goodwin memorial events. Learn and share historic labour songs! Practice Location: Cumberland Masonic Hall Rehearsal Dates: May 23 and 30. June 6, 13, and 20. 7pm to 9pm Performance: Saturday, June 23.
