In distant 1893, at a free, uninhabited area in Lukavac area of the Spreča valley, the foundations of the "First Bosnian ammonia soda plant" were laid. The emergence and development of the town of Lukavac itself is conditioned by the emergence of the soda plant. In its very beginnings, the annual production capacity was between 9 and 11 thousand tons (accounting for 1% of all industrially produced soda in the world), and the plant worked by Honigmann system. In 1908, being taken over by the "Solvay - Werke m.b.H. Wien" corporation, it was modernized and redirected to a new technological process - Solvay system, which has been retained up to this day. Within the Belgian corporation, it worked until 1945, when it was nationalized. In 1970, because of rational use of raw materials for the fabrication of soda, the integration of two basic factories was implemented: Soda Plant Lukavac and Salt Mine and Plant Tuzla and this merger created a unique enterprise: Salt and Chemical Corporation "Soda-So" Tuzla. The manufacturing process was continued until the period of 1992-1998.
At the time when the factory was on the verge of bankruptcy, a contract made on 4 May 2006 led to privatization of " Soda Plant Lukavac " and the establishment of a new company, "Sisecam Soda Lukavac Ltd.", whose majority shareholder, with a share of 80%, became Soda Sanayii AS, a company known for producing soda and soda-based components, owned by the Turkiye Sise ve Cam Fabrikalari AS (Sisecam). Today's 1050 tons a day is the record of the Plant ever since it existed. That's not all - Sisecam has plans for further expansion and continued investment, which amounted to 22 million in 2011, and additional 25 million KM is planned for this year.
