T2 Result Release - FAQ's I have completed my examination. Where can I get my completion letter? Completion letters are sent out to international students only. Completion letters state that the student has fulfilled and met all course requirements and that all teaching was completed in English. After Result Release, once it is confirmed you have meet all course requirements your course status will be reflected on StudentConnect as ‘Completed’. Your status will normally change to completed within 15 working days after result release. You will be able to check your status on StudentConnect. Once the ‘Inactive’ status changes to ‘Completed’, your completion letter and transcript will be posted to your postal address as listed on StudentConnect. Alternatively you can collect your completion letter from Deakin Central once the status changes to ‘Completed’. I have failed a unit which is a pre-requisite for one of my currently enrolled units. The unit now has an INVALID status. What does this mean? An INVALID status usually indicates that you have not met the pre-requisites for that particular unit. You should amend your course plan by enrolling in the pre-requisite unit. If you cannot change your enrolment due to this INVALID unit you will need to withdraw from the unit via StudentConnect or contact your Course Advisor requesting the unit with the INVALID status be removed. Students can email their School for assistance with this process. School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences: ens-enquire@deakin.edu.au School of Health and Social Development: health-hsd@deakin.edu.au School of Medicine: medinfo@deakin.edu.au School of Psychology: psyenq@deakin.edu.au School of Nursing and Midwifery: enrol-nm@deakin.edu.au Final Unit to Complete (FUTC) Comprises of 1. Pass Conceded 2. Supplementary assessment clauses 46-51 of the Assessment (Higher Education Courses) Procedure What is FUTC Pass Conceded and how do I apply for one? You may be eligible for a Pass Conceded grade (PC) if you are one credit point short of completing your course, and meet certain other conditions as detailed below: • You are one credit point short of completing your program of study (e.g. have completed 7/8CPs, 11/12CPs, 23/24CPs, or 31/32CPs) • The unit mark is 45% or greater and less than 50% (ie. 45N – 49N) • You have not failed any hurdle requirement for the unit for which the Pass Conceded grade is being considered • You have not been awarded a Pass Conceded grade for any other unit in this course • You must have received a fail grade in no more than the number of units as specified in the Table below Degree type Number of units in which a fail grade may have been received Three year undergraduate degree (Bachelor) A fail grade in no more than three other units Four or five year undergraduate degree (Bachelor) A fail grade in no more than four other units Combined degree A fail grade in no more than two other units in the relevant degree of the combined degree program Graduate Certificate Graduate Diploma A fail grade in no more than one other unit Masters A fail grade in no more than two other units The Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee will consult with the Course Director/s and the School APC Chair/s when deciding whether to award a Pass Conceded (PC) grade. In relation to combined degree programs (e.g. Bachelor of Health Sciences / Bachelor of Arts), a student is eligible to be considered for a Pass Conceded grade in each of the component degrees. In some courses, a PC grade cannot be awarded for core units in courses requiring professional registration - e.g. Bachelor of Nursing or combined Nursing degrees. If you believe you have satisfied all of the above criteria, please make an application online at: http://www.deakin.edu.au/health/faculty-of-health-current-students/final-unit-request What is FUTC Supplementary Assessment and how do I apply for one? While Pass Conceded grades have been available for a number of years, Supplementary Assessment, under 'Final Unit to Complete' is available to students from the end of Trimester 1, 2015. Supplementary Assessment processes – under the University's 'Final Unit to Complete' provision – are available only to students who are one credit point short of completing their degree and have a failed unit that meets the requirements for a Supplementary Assessment In order to be eligible, you must satisfy the below criteria 1. The unit for which you are applying must be the Final unit of degree (e.g. 23/24 CPs achieved) 2. A unit result of between 40% and 49% (inclusive) 3. The Unit was studied during the last 12 months (eg the trimester just completed and the two trimesters before that). If eligible, supplementary assessment will be offered as soon as practicable to enable you to finalise requirements of your course. Please note that FUTC supplementary assessment is capped at a maximum unit result of 50P. If you believe you have satisfied all of the above criteria, please make an application online at: http://www.deakin.edu.au/health/faculty-of-health-current-students/final-unit-request What is Review of Result and how do I apply for one? After Result Release, a student can apply to the Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee (FAPDC) for a Review of Result. This request must be submitted within five working days after the official published result release date. In accordance with clause 63 of the Assessment (Higher Education Courses) Procedure, which became effective from 9 March 2015: The Faculty Committee will normally only approve an application for a review where the student provides evidence that their work was not marked in accordance with the marking criteria or that there was a misapplication of other relevant University policies or procedures. Please note the Review of Result application cannot grant late special consideration and is not to be used for this process. http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/faculties/faculty-of-health/student-support/review-of-result The FAPDC will consider each request for review in consultation with the chair of the relevant School Academic Progress Committee (APC) and the assessment panel. In determining each request the FAPDC may amend or confirm the result. Note that this may result in a reduction in the mark allocated. The Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee will not accept applications for Review of Result after five working days from the date of official notification of results for the unit unless: 1. Your result was delayed in being finalised until after Result Release; or 2. You can demonstrate exceptional circumstances as to why you were prevented from submitting an application on time (e.g. hospitalised). Both the reasons for the late application and the grounds for your application must be fully explained and be accompanied by independent supporting documentation evidencing the delay (such as a medical certificate). Students should note that this process is not to be used to apply for a Pass Conceded grade. See above for details – Pass Conceded. If you believe that an error has been made in the calculation of your unit result, an application for Review of Result is not applicable and you should contact your Unit Chair directly. I have a RW (Result Withheld) grade for one of my units. What does this mean and how can I get my result for this unit? Students who have a RW grade may have either of two scenarios: 1. Either you have not presented photo identification at your examination 2. You have an Academic Misconduct or General Misconduct allegation pending If your photo identification was not presented at the time of examination, you need to present your photo identification to a staff member at Deakin Central within 7 days. If you have a misconduct matter pending you will receive correspondence from the Executive Officer of the Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee (FAPDC) or the Student Misconduct Committee (SMC) and will be invited to attend a hearing to determine the matter before your grade can be resolved. I want to fast-track my course completion and wish to study five credit points in one trimester. How can I make a request to enrol in five credit points? At Deakin University a full-time study load equals enrolling in either three or four credit points in a trimester. To enrol in five credit points in a trimester you must be sure that you have not failed any units in the previous two trimesters. You will need to discuss your request with a Course Advisor in the first instance and your request will be considered by the Course Director. I want to study four units in one trimester with one of the units being a two credit point unit. The system does not let me enrol. How can I enrol? At Deakin University a full-time study load equals enrolling in either three or four credit points in a trimester. It is not the number of units but the number of credit points that is calculated within the system. To enrol in five credit points you will need to speak to your Course Advisor to arrange for your enrolment rules to be waived. Where can I check the unit offerings for this trimester? You can find this information in the online Handbooks via the following link http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/enrolment-fees-and-money/university-handbook Where can I check my timetable allocation for classes and seminars? You can check your timetable allocation for classes and seminars in STAR via StudentConnect. http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/enrolment-fees-and-money/enrolments/star Classes (Lectures) for two of my units are at the same time. How can I avoid this clash? You will need to log on to STAR and search for a different class time. However if classes for both units are auto allocated, you will need to change your enrolment by either changing one unit to Cloud (online) if available or enrol in an alternative unit in your course. You should also check to see if the teaching activity is recorded so that you can alternatively attend classes/watch online if it is possible. You should always check with the Unit Chair if this is appropriate. I am not able to find any class or seminar as STAR is showing that all are full. How can I get allocated to a class or seminar? You will need to contact Health-Student and Academic Services and request assistance. You can contact Health-Student and Academic Services on (03) 9251 7777 or via email: health-enquire@deakin.edu.au I am experiencing problems with CloudDeakin. Who can I contact for assistance? Students experiencing difficulties with CloudDeakin (unit not appearing on CloudDeakin, CloudDeakin not showing properly, etc.) should check their enrolment in Student Connect in the first instance to ensure that they are enrolled in the correct units. Subsequently students can visit http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/help/about-clouddeakin/help-with-clouddeakin or contact the eSolutions Help Desk http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/help/it-help I have failed a unit and my Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) ends shortly. How can I apply for a COE extension? (This reference is for international students only) Students need to fill out a COE extension endorsement form which can be accessed at http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/studying/international-students/compliance-and-visas/coe-information/apply-or-extend-coe Students complete the form and submit to the Course Advisor. Once the form is processed and the new course duration is approved, a course advisor will contact the student advising them to collect the new COE from the relevant office. During peak times it may take up to three working days for a course advisor to complete the form. Students then need to submit this form to Deakin Central to have the new COE processed. Where can I go for help if in doubt? Health-Student and Academic Services (H-SAS) is the first point of contact for all students undertaking units/courses in the Faculty of Health and will be able to assist you with any enquiries you have. You can contact the HSAS team on telephone: (03) 9251 7777 or email: health- enquire@deakin.edu.au Students can also contact the HSAS office by posing message via the CloudDeakin Faculty of Health – Students site or via Facebook: (Faculty-Health Hsas) or via Twitter (@DeakinHSAS)
