Storms have created flash flooding in Melbourne. So far the rainfall in Wattle Glen hasn't been heavy enough to create a big issue however the message is still valid.

It's not long now - Santa has asked if Wattle Glen fire brigade can be kind enough to drive him around tonight so he can visit some of the boys and girls before they go to bed. Of course we are only to willing to oblige a request such as this. So we look forwards to seeing the community out and about tonight. Merry Christmas to everyone, the members of Wattle Glen wish everyone a safe and happy time and we ask everyone to remember the key fire safety messages that we have promoted throughout the year. This way we can all enjoy our day with family and loved ones tomorrow. Merry Christmas - Wattle Glen Captain.

DELWP PortPhillip

This short video is the arrival of Helitack 331 to Olinda in the Dandenong's this morning. This helicopter is a water bombing helicopter with 1400 litres of water onboard that is going to respond to fires in the Nillumbik Shire area this coming fire season. As soon as our pagers sound for an out of control grass or bush fire on a bad fire weather day, if its not already deployed elsewhere, this helicopter will respond to Wattle Glen and provide support to us with water bombing and aerial recon of the fire edge and where its spreading to. We hope to not see it in out area, however if we should need to make use of it's services, it's great to know that its there and ready to help.

Hurstbridge Fire Brigade

If you live on the border between Wattle Glen and Hurstbridge you may hear a different fire siren this year. Hurstbridge are going to have their siren active between 8am and 8pm for the fire restrictions period. Remember a fire siren is not a community warning device it is a backup communications device to the members to attend the station for a fire call. That call may not actually be a fire, so check your other information sources to get a better idea on what is going on and why the siren might be sounding.

Fire Restrictions come into force at 1am tomorrow morning. There is to be no more burn offs without an approved permit issued by the Council. Any burn offs that have been lit over previous weeks need to be checked and fully extinguished with water if there is any residual heat within the ashes. The brigades of Nillumbik Shire have all been busy of late chasing out of control burn offs, so please do us a favour and check those old burns and don't light any more up until the Restrictions period are lifted.
